CHRISTMAS SEALS— Miss America, Maria Beale Fletcher
of Asheville, is pictured discussing the 1961 Christmas Seal
campaign with Miss Patsy Tipton of Asheville, who represents
the children on the 1961 Christmas Seal, and Vernon C. Wilson,
Presideny Buncombe County Tuberculosis and Health Association’.
They point out that Christmas Seals support the programs of
tuberculosis associations in North Carolina relating to education,
referrals, research, patient services and case finding. They re
mind North Carolinians to use Christmas Seals on all their
cards and packages. Moore County’s seal sale is now going on
under direction of Forrest Lockey of Aberdeen. All contributions
should be sent to the Moore County Tuberculosis Association
Box 70, Pinehurst. ’

Army PFC Henry A. Frye, 20,
( sons of Mr. and Mrs. Henry W.
Frye, Route 2, Carthage, recently
participated with other person
nel from the 1st Armored Divi
sion’s 13th Cavalry as an “Ag-
Igressor Force” against members
of the 2nd Armored Division dur
ing a one-week field training ex-
|ercise at Fort Hood, Tex.
Eiuring the exercise Frye and
other members of his unit served
as an enemy force to simulate ac
tual combat conditions for the
2nd Division, which is being made
combat ready through an intensi
fied training period.
Frye, a tank crewman in the
cavalry’s Company B, entered the
Army in October, 1960, and com
pleted basic training at Fort Ben-
|ning, Ga.
He was graduated from Pinck
ney High School, Carthage, in
1959 and worked for the Horn &
Hardart Co. in New York, N. Y.,
prior to entering the Army.
Army 2nd Lt. Clyde W. Au-

completed the officer orientation

Lieutenant Auman received

branches with festive lights. As
Father hangs the wreath, a
daughter wraps a Christmas sur
prise. A musical family trip is
joined by Grandpa, who leads the

rocks the baby. Nearby the fam
ily puppy adds his voice to the
merriment.
Families all over the country
i3nter into the spirit that the ar
tist has illustrated. One of the
greatest j.oys a family has at
Christmas time is that of being
together.
There has been much progress
in the fight against tuberculosis.
There r.en.ains a great need for
a concerted and all-out attack on
TB and other respiratory diseases
which have separated hundreds
of families and loved ones in the
past and continue to interrupt the
lives of many in the present. Be
cause people care, there is hope
for the future.
Artist Heidi Brandt was inspir
ed by those thoughts and wished
to portray the theme of keeping
the family together.
Born on a homestead near Great
Falls, Montana, Mrs. Brandt re
ceived her education and -oxperi-
enced her first ventures into the
art world in Seattle, Washington.
Since these early days, Mrs.
Brandt has done advertising art.
