The members of the Walter Hines Page Book Club met Thurs day afternoon, December 14, in the home of Mrs. E. D. Pleasants on Bethesda Road. Mrs. S. P. Swaringen was co-hostess to the meeting. The hostess based the decorations of the entertainment area on the program theme of the afternoon, the Moravian Christmas. The home was lovely with greenery and candles, using the Moravian Star and Church. Mrs. W. C. Neill, president, pre sided over the business session. Mrs. John Greer presented a most interesting program on the Moravian Christmas and was as sisted by Mrs. Brooks Patten, who was dressed in a Moravian cos tume and lighted - the Advent candles. Mrs. Greer told of customs and observation of Christ mas in the Moravian community in Winston-Salem. At the conclusion of the pro gram a small beeswax candle was given to each guest. The beeswax candle is given to all those at tending a Moravian Christmas Love Feast. Special music was presented by a group of children from the Junior Choir of Bethesda Church. They sang “The Friendly Beasts,” a 12th century carol and a carol which all Moravian children learn, “How Bright Appears the Morning Star.” The following singers were accompanied by Mrs. Neill: Doreen Donathan, Amelia Wicker, Gloria Wright, John Ransdell, John Neill, and Robert Burns. Delicious refreshments of tea, salad, fruit cake, and Moravian cookies were enjoyed during the social hour. Junior Womans Club The Aberdeen Junior Woman’s Club met on Tuesday night, Dec ember 12. The group met at the Legion Hut to go for f guided tour through the Midland Crafters near Pinehurst. 1 Following the tour, which arous ed great interest in crafts and especially in the unique Crystal- wood at Midland Crafters, the club met in the home of Mrs. R D. Spear. Mrs. R. J. Thompson president, presided over a brmf business session. Hostesses of the evening, Miss June Melvin, Mrs Mary Greene, Mrs. Norma Jaclo son, Mrs. Mary McCluskey, and Mrs. Allie Gale, served cranberry punch and Christmas goodies to the members present. Aberdeen Gardenetles IVIrs. E. R. Graham and IHrs. Harry Watson were co-hostesses to members of the Aberdeen Gar- denettes and their husbands in the home of Mrs. Graham on Monday evening. Following an invocation by Mr. Graham, the hostesses invited the group in to the dining room where a turkey dinner with all the fes tive trimmings was served buffet stylo. During the evening, original Christmas arrangements, made by the club members, were judged by the entire group. Mrs. (Gra ham’s religious arrangemen^ fea turing a Madonna and child and open Testament using the theme “Peace on Earth” won first place, and Mrs. Watson’s unique Santa Claus arrangement placed sefcond. The evening ended with group singing around the piano. Those attending included; Mr. and Mrs. Vann Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shields, Mr. and Mrs. Walter DeLong, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Reynolds, Mrs. Vivian Green, Mr. and Mrs. James Reaves, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sam uels; guests, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McNeill; the hostesses’ husbands, E. R. Graham and Harry Watson; and little Miss Caroline Graham. Mrs. Kirby Honored Mrs. C. E. Kirby was surprised on Wednesday afternoon when she was guest of honor in the home of Mrs. Robert Gotch. Open House was from 2:00 to 5:30 with 35 to 40 guests attending. Punch, cookies, and nuts were served by the hostesses, Mrs. C. T. Gale, Mrs. LeRoy Mclnnis, Mrs. Marie Allen, and Mrs. Gotch. Mrs. Kirby, who has joined her husband in Knoxville, Tenn., re ceived many lovely gifts during the afternoon. Mobleys Entertain Principal and Mrs. C.
