R. Reynolds, J- M. Pleasants, W. S. Taylor and T. R. Monroe—^with Supt. of Schools Robert E. Lee and Sheriff W. B. Kelly visited a site behind the spot where the new school gar age is being built, last *Wednesday morning, with two projects in mind. Queried later on results of the field trip, the sheriff said 'T be lieve we are going to be able to get together.” The trip was planned when Lee appeared before the commission ers at their June meeting last week to request permission for the board of education to im pound a small lake on the county- owned property, and the Sheriff came too, to ask the same thing. Lee said that, while the well drilled for the garage was ade quate for normal uses, it wouldn’t produce enough water in June and July for the big annual chore of washing all the school buses. With a stream running across the back of the property, plenty of clay at hand and the regular maintenance crew and equipment available to do the work, “we could build a lake and use the water at the cost of only about $100 for pipe.” Sheriff Kelly said a commit tee of the Moore County Law En forcement Officers Association had viewed the site with approval as ideal for a long-planned club house, with lake, pistol range, etc., for meetings and recreation of the officers. The association had start ed building up a fund with such a project in mind, and would like to “lease the property on what ever terms the commissioners think fair.” Indications were the commis sioners would approve a cooper ative arrangement under which the stream would he dainmed and both groups get to use the lake. The property adjoins the Rey nolds Rest Home fronting on US 15-501 and NC 22, three miles south of Carthage. Only a portion has been used for the school gar age and parking area, with a wooded area extending back for a considerable distance.
