Wildlife Club’s
Lake Filling Up;
More Work Slated
The lake on the property of the
Moore County Wildlife Club, near
Whispering Pines, is filling up
and is within about three feet of
the top ,it was reported Tuesday
night by Albert Tufts of Pine
hurst, club home chairman, to
club members at their monthly
meeting.
Next, he said, an entrance road
is to be built, circling the head
of the lake and crossing the dam,
also the hillside site of the lodge
will be cleared off—both jobs to
be accomplished by John Gold
smith with his bulldozer. Then
will come the actual construction
of the home, for which plans are
now being worked out.
The committee has been work
ing hard for several months on
the project, which is being financ
ed by gifts, dues and annual as
sessments which the members
voted on themselves. As yet many
members have not visited the site
to see what is going on. Tufts
said, extending an invitation to
all to come.
The meeting was held follow
ing a barbecue supper at Devil’s
Creek Cabin owned by Shields
Cameron, on the Old Pinehurst
Road. Some 70 members were
present, with President Ralph T.
Mills presiding.
New members Mr .and Mrs.
Charles Hazelhurst, Frank Swaim
and Ed Floyd were welcomed into
the club, also former members
Cliff and Helen Johnson return
ing after several years.
A fascinating color film, “The
Story of the Mourning Dove,”

sources Commission, who answer
ed many questions about the
dove, a popular game bird in
many states, including North Car

Bob Madigan, a new graduate
of Southern Pines High school,

In 1958, only two per cent of
Cuba’s farm sales went to the
Sino-Soviet Block and almost
none of its agriclutural imports
came from there. In 1961, the bloc
reecived about 70 per cent of
Cuba’s farm exports and supplied
about two-thirds of its agricul
tural purchases.
