There were 30 fires by the following causes: lightning, 1; campfire, 1; smoking, 12; debris burning,4; in cendiary, 4; machine use, 2; and miscellaneous, 6. These fires burned 678 acres, of which 651 acres was commercial forest land, 12 acres was non commercial forest land, and 15 acres was non-forest land. Moore County has a total of 338,200 acres of woodland, and forest fires burned on approxi mately .20 percent of the above figure. Responsible persons caus ing forest fires were found by Ranger Wicker on 35 percent of the man-caused fires that burned in the county during the calendar CONGRATULATED BY PRESIDENT 24 Moore County 4-H Clubs Join In Observance Of National Week Moore County’s 24 4-H Clubs are observing National 4-H Club Week, March 2-9. The youths are among 2,285,600 who belong to more than 94,700 clubs in urban, suburban and rural areas throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Among the activities taking place this week are exhibits and displays in the schools, 4-H table cards, posters, radio programs, 4-H Church Sunday, and individ ual exhibits. Aims of the observance in clude: to focus on 1963’s citizen ship-in-action goals for members, to emphasize the value of wise decision-making in vocational choices, influence more boys and girls 10 to 19 years of age to join year of 1962.
