The Armed Forces PILOT ADVERTISING PAYS Private Edgar M. Talbert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank R. Talbert, Niagara, has been assigned to Company C, 19th Battalion, 5th Training Regiment, Fort Jackson, S. C.j for eight weeks of basic combat training. This is his first 'phase of six months active duty s training with the U. S. Army and I a part of the obligation he incur- | red upon enlisting in the Army National Guard’s 196th Infantry, Co. D, of Southern Pines. He will be taught marksman ship, squad tactics, bayonet and hand-to-hand combat, and crawl ing the infiltration course while live machine-gun fire is popping overhead. Curtis E. Wall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Wall of Route 2, Cam eron, is undergoing nine weeks of basic recruit training at the Nav al Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. The indoctrination began early in February and consists of phy sical fitness drills, military drills, seamanship, basic military law, customs and etiquette of the nav al service, swimming and survi val, and first aid. daughters. Marion, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Marion of Cameron, whose wife, Linda, lives in Asheboro, recently took part in a four-week field training exercise with other members of the 3rd Armored Di vision near Grafenwohr, Ger many. Specialist Marion, a mechanic in Service Battery of the divis ion’s 3rd Artillery in Kirch Gons, entered the Army in January 1961 and completed basic combat training at Fort Jackson, S. C. The 21-year-old soldier is a 1959 graduate of Cameron High School. Army Chiof Warrant Officer Bruce E. Bryant, 31, son of Mrs. Mildred K. Bryant, Route 3, Car thage, is a member of the 80th Ordnance Group at Fort Biragg, which was recently attached to the 5th Logistical Command of the Strategic Army Corps (STRAC). The group is one of seven ma jor technical and administrative units recently attached to the 5th Logistical Command, increasing the command’s capability in ful filling its mission of support to STRAC—the Army’s ready force. The Warrant officer, who enlist ed 10 years ago, attended Carth age High School. His wife, Jean, lives in Southern Pines. Army Specialist Four Roy R- McCrimmon. of' Cameron, and other members of the 25th Divis- non’s 27th Infantry participated in Exercise LAVA RIDGE III, a combined Army-Air Force exer cise in the Hawaiian Islands. 'The soldiers, regularly stationed at Schofield Barracks on the island of Oahu, were flown in round-the-clock flight operations to the island of Hawaii where they are receiving three weeks of live-fire training. Specialist McCrimmon, assign ed to Company C of the infan-, try’s 1st Battle Group, entered the Army in March, 1960, was last stationed at Fort Hood, Tex., and arrived in Hawaii the following August. The 21-year-old soldier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy McCrimmon, attended Pinckney High School, Carthage. DAVID D. S. CAMERON, JR.. Cameron, Former Resident, Joins Scottish Bank David D. S. Cameron, Jr., join ed the Scottish Bank System Monday, according to an announ cement from John P. Stedman, president, of Lumberton. Mr. Cameron is a graduate of Southern Pines High School and the University of North Carolina. He has completed graduate work at both UNC and Duke Univer sity. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Shields Cameron of South ern Pines. 'The former local young nian is vice president of The Scottish Bank’s Fayetteville office and will spend some time at the bank’s headquarters in Lumber- ton, before assuming the new post in Fayetteville. He had been assistant cashier of the North Car olina National Bank branch in Wilmington. His business and professional career began as a teacher in the Winston-Salem city schools. In re cent years he has been associated with the First National Bank of South Carolina and North Caro lina National Bank of Wilming ton. A veteran of naval service dur ing the Korean War, Mr. Camer on has been active in community and civic affairs in Wilmington and Eastern North Carolina bank ing circles.
