Equestrian Team
To Be Seen At
Camden Mareh 31
On Sunday, March 31, the day
following Carolina Cup Steeple-
cha&a races at Camden, The S. C.,
United States Equestrian Three
Day Team will have an exhibi
tion at the Camden Polo Field,
Broad St. (Routes 521 and 601).
Ringside parking will be avail
able, as will general admissions.
The team has trained in Cam
den since about January 1 in
preparation for peirticipation in
the Pan-American CJames in
Brazil. This will constitute their
final work-out prior to their de
parture for South America about
April 10.
The United States Equestrian
Team is supported by public do
nation. All donations are tax de
ductible.

Several defendants in the
March 6 session of Southern
Pines Recor(Jer’s Court at the mu
nicipal center chose the option
of walking to Howard Johnson’s
restaurant and motor lodge, and
back, in place of paying a fine.
The option is frequently offer
ed defendants by Judge W.
Harry Fullenwider to impress on
them and the public the serious
ness of “minor” traffic and other
law violations.
Paying court costs and taking
the walk were the following de
fendants, listed with charges;
Louise Custer Lane, Sanford,
improper auto registration; Billy
Ray Jones, Fayetteville, speeding
60 in 45 zone (non-suit taken on
charge of no operatorr’s license);
Caleb Lucky, Hoffman, no oper
ator’s license; Fred Boggins,
Southern Pines, speeding 45 in 35
zone; Charles Wayne Anderson,
Fort Bragg, no operator’s license;
Herbert James Me Author, South
ern Pines, poss-ession of 20 per
cent wine with seal broken (wine
to be destroyed).
Charged with public drunken
ness and paying $10 fine and costs
were: William Henry Norris,
Southern Pines, and Arnie L. Car
lyle, Winston-Salem. Also charg
ed with that offense, with other
disposition, were: William Hoo
ver Carlyle, Pinehurst, one
month on roads, suspended three
months on payment of costs and
also payment of costs in a former
case, not to be convicted of this
charge or possession of whiskey
in three months, not to be found
in any place selling alcoholic bev
erages; and Thomas Lewis, Sou
thern Pines, found not guilty, but
judge directed that he not be
convicted of similar offense in
next year, nor be found on the
premises of Pugh’s Grill.

Troy, speeding 50 in 35 zone, $15
and costs; Porter Gable Barron,
Columbia, S. C., speeding 67 in
55 zone, $12 and costs; Mary A.
Van Liew, New Blrunswick, N. J.,
speeding 70 in 55 zone, $15 and
costs; John Duncan Meinnis,
speeding 56 in 45 zone, $11 and
costs; Robert Edward Scolten,
Carrollton, Md., speeding 65 in
55 zone, no operator’s license, $35
(and costs; James Arthur Strider,
Star, speeding 56 in 45 zone, $11
and costs; Thomas William Covey,
Flint, Mich., speeding 65 in 45
zone, $20 and costs; Thomas Ed
ward Collier, Carthage, hit and
run (property damage only), fol
lowing too closely, pay costs, not
to operate a motor vehicle in
North Carolina for nine months,
court recommends that N. C. De
partment of Motor Vehicles sus
pend defendant’s license for that
period of time.
Reported before in The Pilot
was the binding over to Superior
Court of two defendants charged
with murder; Herbert Ewings,
Jr., and William Charles Gibson,
both of West Southern Pines.
