Presbyterian Circles Both circles of the Vass Pres byterian Women of the Church met last week. The Jane McGill circle met on Monday of last week with Mrs. Coy Blue Sr. hostess at her home. Mrs. Eugene Hicks presided. Mrs. Karl Schweinfurth moderated the Bible study. Mrs. W. D. McGill was program leader and present ed the topic “General Fund Agencies.” Members welcomed two guests, Mrs. Francino Hardy, house guest of Mrs. Blue, and Mrs. Gates, guest of Mrs. Schweinfurth. Circle 1 met Wednesday of last week with Mrs. Lenwood Pat terson, hostess. Mrs. Hugh Mc Lean presided and Mrs. Howard Gschwind moderated the Bible study. Methodist Circle Circle 1 of the WSCS met on Tuesday of last week for their June meeting in the Fellowship Hall. Mrs. H. A. Borst was host ess of the month. Mrs. Charles Gschwind, chairman, presided, and Mrs. C. L. Tyson, program leader, presented the topic, “Lord Teach Us To Pray.” Assisting Mrs. Tyson with parts were: Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Jr., Mrs. W. A. Muse, Miss Ethel Davis, Mrs. G. E. Griffin, Miss Bessie Cameron and Mrs. S. R. Smith. A social hour, with refreshments served by the hostess, was enjoyed. Woman's Club Meets Mrs. W. A. Muse was hostess to the Woman’s Club at her home Thursday night. Mrs. C. R. Pope, president, presided over the rou tine business. The club litany was used for the opening meditation. Mrs. Pope reported receipts of Welfare Tag Sale. Mrs. Karl Schweinfurth, chairman of the Garden Dept., was in charge of the program. Following reports and communications the collect was used to close the meetiri^g. The hostess served refreshments. Dinner Hosts Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Morgan entertained at a buffet dinner at their home on Wednesday night of last week. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Jr., Mr. and Mrs C. P. McMillan, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Crockett, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Pope, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Edwards, Dr. and Mrs. Russell Tate and Dr. and Mrs. R. J- Dougherty. Honored Mrs W. J. Allen was honored on her birthday, June 14- The Rev. David Moe, pastor of the Methodist Church where she is a member, and Mrs. Moe, homemade ice cream, and j Charles Gschwind baked and dec orated a birthday cake. On Fn- day night, they joined Mrs. S. R. Smith, Mrs. H. A. Borst, Mrs. C. L. Tyson, Miss Bessie Cameron, and Mrs. A. G. Edwards, Sr. and carried gifts to her home to help c.<"lebrate the occasion. Mrs. Anna Belle Gilliland of the home was present. Honored at Shower Mrs. Roy Ramey was honored recently when Mrs. Peggi John son and Mrs. Geraldine Huggins were co-hostesses at a pink and blue shower at the home of Mrs. Huggins in Southern Pines. The honoree received a number of dainty gifts. Mrs. Ramey is the former Peggy Lou Womble. Personals Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Callahan, Mr. and Mrs. James Key, Misses Betty Ann Key, Amy Callahan, Ann Frye, Larry J. Cameron and Joe Frye, spent Sunday at Ocean Drive, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Ring were Sunday visitors and dinner guests of her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Lane, and grandfather, J. W. Hilliard, in Bonlee. Mr. and Mrs. Waylon Thomas and son Mike, en route from their home in Black Mountain for a week at Carolina Beach, called on her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Frye and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. David McCallum of Southern Pines visited his sis ter and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. McDermott, Sunday cifternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wood were in Wilmington Sunday for a tour of tjie USS North Carolina. George Baldwin, who received his B. S. degree at State College was an honor graduate of the col lege. George is visiting here with his mother, Mrs. Coy Blue Sr. Miss Carol M. Callahan, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Alton Calla han of Route 2, Vass, is one of the two Moore students named to the dean’s list at Methodist Col lege, Fayetteville, for the spring semester. Miss Callahan, a rising sophomore, was one of the 59 stu dents who qualified for this hon or. To be named to the dean’s list. is visiting here with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Coy Blue Sr. Visiting here from Wednesday until Friday with Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Lassiter and family, and her mother, Mrs. T. L. Smith, were Mrs. Georgia Lewis and daughter and son, Faye, and James, of Creston. Mrs. Smith and grand daughter, Julie Lassiter, accom panied them home for a week’s visit. Mrs. Daniel Boggs and Mrs. J. W. Hight accompanied Mrs. Pen Lane of Bynum to her home on Friday for the weekend. Mrs. Lane had visited here with her mother, Mrs. George Stutts, and other relatives. Mrs. Hight re mained for a visit with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jones in Bynum and Mrs. Boggs returned with her daugh ter, Miss Agnes Boggs, and Mrs. E. A. Frye, who were Monday visitors with Mrs. Lane. Mr. and Mrs. George Dickens and family of Lillington were here Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Laubscher, and attended funeral services for her grandmother, Mrs. Jeffreys. Mrs. David Hoffman and Mrs. Gilbert Womack of Sanford vis ited with their mother, Mrs. H. E. Womble, and grandmother, Mrs. George Stutts, and called on Mrs. E. A. Frye, Thursday of last week. Tommy and Louis Harris of Palmyra, Va. are spending this week with Mr. and Mrs .B. L. Lassiter and family. Cpl. and Mrs. Charles Fowler and family of Albany, Ga. return ed home after spending the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arch Frye and relatives in Aberdeen. The family had accom panied Misses Debbie Blue, Bren da Scott, and Donald Blue after a week’s visit with them. Mrs. Louis Foster entered Moore Memorial Hospital Mon day afternoon where she had surgery on Wednesday. G. W. Mashburn,. who imder- went surgery recently at St. Jo seph’s Hospital, is expected to re turn home on Tuesday of this week. Mrs. Charles Cameron and son. Craig, motored to Buie’s Creek Saturday to accompany another son, Randy, Mike Griffin, Chuck Priest, Danny Burwell and Lar ry Matthews home after they had spent last week at Campbell College attending a basketball school.
