D » I ^ I 9 > • THURSDAY, AUGUST 8, 1963 District Democrat Leaders To Gather For Organization Democratic leaders from the Eighth Congressional District will hold a second organizational meeting at Revels Restaurant in Rockingham, August 15. Eighth District Democrats held an initial organizational meeting in Raleigh, June 4. At this meet ing Mecklenburg County Party Chairman Ray King was elected temporary chairman and assigned the task of promoting a second meeting. “Letters have been sent out to Democratic leaders in the Eighth District,” said Charlie Smith, Mecklenburg’s executive director who is handling publicity and arrangements for the “dutcn treat” dinner slated for 7:30 p. hi. All county chairmen and vice chairmen have been invited in ad dition to members of general as sembly representing 8th District counties, and presidents of Young Democratic and Democratic Wom en’s Clubs. The meeting will not deal with personalities or candidates, but will be for the purpose of seeing if a district-wide organization is to be established. An Eighth Dis trict Steering committee will probably be selected. State Democratic officials re siding in the district' and Tom Davis, executive secretary of the State Democratic Party, will be invited to attend. Leading Democrats not holding office or title in the Party will be invited at invitations of county chairmen. Attendance is expected to ex ceed 80. THE PILOT—Southern Pines, North Carolina The Armed Forces Mil Army Pvt. Charles V. Utley, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ut ley, Route 1, Aberdeen, has com pleted eight weeks of advanced infantry training at the U. S. Army Training Center, Fort Gor don, Ga. Utley received instruc tions in combat techniques and in firing the M-14 rifle and M-60 ma- chinegun, two of the Army’s new est infantry weapons. Utley entered the Army in Feb ruary of this year and completed basic training at Fort Gordon. The 23-year-old soldier is a 1958 graduate of Berkley High School and attended Agricultural & Technical College, Greensboro, and Howard University, Washing ton, D. C. He was employed by the U. S. Pinehurst Rd., Aberdeen, and other members of the 4th Armored Division will complete a four-week field train ing exercis.3 in Germany July 31. The training consists of range firing and squad, platoon and company-level tactics and field problems. During the exercise, Sergeant Kuzminski.’s unit will take its annual Army Training Test. I Kuzminski, first sergeant of Battery A, 2nd Howitzer Battalion in the division’s 78th Artillery in Germany, entered the Army in 1944.He was last stationed at Fort Bragg, and arrived overseas on this tour of duty in April, 1963. The sergeant, son of Mrs. Mari on Kasprzynski, Rocky Hill, Conn., attended Hartford (Conn.) High School. Midshipman Second Class Al bert L. Sneed, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Sneed of Pinehurst, N. USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Rogers of Route 2, Carthage, has reported to the U. S. Naval Communica tion Station, San Juan, Puerto Rico. He has been assigned duty at the U. S. Naval Radio Station (T), Fort Allen, Ponce, Puerto Rico. Rogers, a graduate of Carthage High School, entered the service in June, 1959. James M. Cameron, aviation electronics technician airman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin H. Cameron of Route 1, Cameron, recently reported for duty with Utility Squadron Four at Oceana Naval Air Station, Virginia Beach, Va.
