To be held in the courtroom at Carthage at 2 p. m., the conven tion will feature H. Clifton Blue of Aberdeen as keynote speaker, according to W. Lamont Brov/n, County Democratic chairman. Blue will pause for the occa sion in his campaign for lieuten ant governor, which is taking him into all 100 counties of the State, from the mountains to the coast. Precinct reports will be made, all candidates will be recognized and official delegates will be chosen for the State Convention to be held at Raleigh May 19 and 20, said Brown. The new county executive com.- mittee, composed of precinct chairmen and vice chairmen elected Saturday, will meet im mediately after the county con vention for its biennial reorgani zation. Precinct meetings of last week were reported generally small but enthusiastic highlights of this election year. Only one precinct failed to hold its meeting. This was Deep River, which has no meeting place and where the chairman Bob Hyman, expected to be out of town. Until a reorganization meeting can be held, Hyman and Mrs. Fred Tally, vice-chairman, will continue in office. Others on the list, still incom plete (chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, two members, named in that order); ABERDEEN — Forrest Lockey, Mrs. W. T. McDonald is represent ing the Carthage Presbyterian Reminder Issued On ‘Little Miss’ Contest Entries Parents of girls of pre-school age were reminded this week by the Southern Pines Jaycees that Friday of next week. May 8, is the deadline for submitting en tries in the Little Miss Southern Pines contest to be sponsored by the young men’s civic organiza tion. The contest will be held in Weaver Auditorium, Friday, May 15, starting at 7 p.m. Entry applications are avail able at Tots’ Toggery store on N. W. Broad St. and at the Town Information Center. A snapshot of the child should accompany the application. Prizes will be awarded the win ner and two runners-up and each little girl entered will re ceive a gift. Church at the 1964 meeting of the General Assem^bly at Montreat, as commissioner. Clarence Cole of Carbonton, visited his cousins, Mrs. Milton Mclver, Mrs. Mae Cole, Davis and D. A. and J. D. Shields last week. Mrs. Mae Gardener suffered a broken arm last week. Mr. and Mrs. David McCulloch of Arden were the guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Cur rie over the weekend. Larry McCallum of Wingate spent the weekend with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. McCal lum. Miss Molly Dotson, who teaches in Raleigh, spent the weekend with her parents. The Rev. and Mrs. B. E. Dotson. Miss Dotson’s weekend guests were Miss Ann Lee Sullivan and Cary Gravette, both graduate students at Duke University. James A. Gray, Old Salem Head, To Address Club James A. Gray of Winston- Salem, presiednt of Old Salem, Inc., will speak on the topic of “Old Salem in Washington’s Time and Now” Wednesday, May 6, at a meeting of the Kiwanis Club. The program will be^in at 12:15 p. m. at the Holiday Inn in South ern Pines. A native of Winston-Salein, Mr. Gray received a bachelor’s de gree from the University of North Carolina in 1951, and ,a master’s degree from Harvard Business School in 1943. In 1949 he joined the Winston- Salem Journal and Sentinel where he served as personnel di rector for eight years, general manager for two years and pub lisher for two years. Active in the civic life of his community, Mr. Gray helped to organize the Old Salem Restora tion program, served on the State Highway Commission for four years and served as general chair man of the United Fund campaign in 1958. During 1962, he was executive director of the Winston-Salem Foundation. He resigned that post the first of 1963 to become full time president of Old Salem, Inc. Henry G. Harper will be pro gram chairman and introduce the speaker.
