Sharpe, 19, of Sanford Rt. 6, were given pro bationary terms, along with mul tiple fines, in Moore Recorder’s Court at Carthage Monday for breaking and entering and lar ceny. Price and Sharpe were recent ly arrested in Lee County and admitted break-ins and thefts in Moore, Lee and Harnett counties. They have now been tried in both Lee and Harnett counties, while Moore waited its turn. They have been placed on proba tion in all three counties. In the Moore court, the youths pleaded guilty to breaking into Dr. Medlin’s and Dr. Vander- Voort’s Sandhills Dental Clinic at Aberdeen June 16, causing ex tensive damage to the building, especially the doors, and taking a money box containing about $18 and an electric desk clock; Marsh’s Grocery Store near West End. where they took ciga rettes. tobacco, lighter fluid and other merchandise, less than $20 Co. at Pinebluff July 3, breaking into a cigarette machine there and taking cigarettes and money, and Smithson’s of Southern Pines, Inc., on US Highway 1 north of Southern Pines, where they stole a cash box containing around $5Q. also on July 3. In addition, Price admitted breaking into the new Golf World office building in South ern Pines the night of June 14 with the intent to steal, though nothing actually was taken. On each of the cases, each de fendant was sentenced to eight months on the roads, to be serv ed consecutively, each sentence suspended on two years’ proba tion and payment of $100 fine in each case, the fines to be payable at the rate of $10 per month, plus costs. While on probation they were ordered not to operate _ a car on the public roads, nor to vio late any of the laws against breaking and entering, larceny or trespass, also to be on good behavior generally, or else all the road sentences would come into effect, making a total of 40 months for Price, 32 months for the roads, the defendant through his attorney gave notice of ap peal and bond was set at $500. Other cases disposed of: Claude Bennett McQuage, Jr., Carthage, speeding 75 in 60-mile zone, $20 and costs; Richard Fred Prestwood, Lenoir, driving while drunk, $100 and costs, license re voked 12 months; Graham E. Chriscoe, Seagrove Rt. 2, careless and reckless driving, accident, personal injury, judgment con tinued 12 months on payment of $25 and costs, not to violate laws against speeding and reckless driving in that time; Bryce Blackwell, Lexington, careless and reckless driving, accident, driving after license suspension, 90 days suspended for 12 months on payment of $200 and costs, de fendant to pay or cause to be paid damage and medical ex penses of persons hurt; DeWitt T. Charles Sparks, Jr., 21-year- old Negro soldier of Fort Bragg, pleading not guilty to the charge of assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill, declared his desire for a lawyer and his lack of ability to pay one, requesting that the court appoint one. This the court did, allowing two hours for the attorney to get up a de fense for the soldier, who was ac cused of the near-fatal beating of a 67-year-old woman after both had been drinking at Sally’s Place, near Montgomery county, the night of July 3. Sally’s Place has since been closed for the next three years, by order of the court. Sparks was found guilty of as sault and battery on a female, in flicting serious and permanent injury but without intent to kill. Sentenced to serve 18 months on cense, on wrong side, 30 days suspended for 12 months on pay ment of $25 and costs; Dorothy Joline Rogers, Robbins, exceed ing safe speed, accident, $10 and costs: Herbert All Russell, Ashe- boro Rt. 5, speeding 65 in 55-mile zone, $10 and costs; Larry Thomas Jackson, Eagle Springs, assault with deadly weapon, four months or $25 and costs, defend ant to pay medical expenses of Lovell Spencer; nol pros with leave taken by State in cases against Lovell Spencer, charged with assault, Henry Richardson, assault with deadly weapon, and Edward Person, aiding and abet ting. Robert Gilliam Richardson and Robert Elwood Morgan, both of Eagle Springs, exceeding safe speed, both pleaded not guilty, found guilty, $10 and costs each, Richardson notified of appeal and bond was set at $100; James Au brey Locke, Sanford Rt. 3, driv ing while drunk, $100 and costs, license revoked as provided by law; Danny Osborne Caviness, Lakeview, careless and reckless driving, accident, $25 and costs.
