Vass News &. Personals By MRS. CHARLES CAMERON Wedding A ceremony at the Post Chapel at Fort Bragg united Miss Verbel Lorine Davis and A3|c Wayne Gordon Van Etten, July 5 at 7:00. Capt. Malcolm Smith, Post chaplain, officiated and a recep tion followed at the home of the bride’s parents. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Davis of Vass. Her husband is a native of Syracuse, N. Y., stationed with the Air Force at Pope Field. 1116 couple was attended by A2lc Keffier Harwell as best man and Miss Carolyn Holder, maid of honor. They are at home in Vass. Shower Mrs. Van Etten was guest of honor at a recent miscellaneous bridal shower at the Vass Com munity House given by employ ees of the Reservoir Department of Proctor-Silex Corporation. Dancing was enjoyed during the evening to the band organized by members of the Department. Bible School Commencement On Friday evening at 7 o’clock a commencement exercises and picnic supper climaxed the week’s activities of Vacation Bible School at the Vass Metho dist Church, with parents and friends attending. Mrs. Horace MuUinix, school director, gave the welcome, which was followed with a con gregational hymn. The Junior Department was in charge of the scripture and ben ediction. The Rev. Charles Woo ten. pastor, led in prayer. The Kindergarten Department con tributed songs. A litany was pre sented by the Primary children. A portion of the program was a film strip, “Palestine In Jesus’s Day,” by Mr. Wooten. Awarding of certificates was made by the teachers. The School, with evening ses sions from 5:00-7:00 p. m. held in the new children’s classroom building, had an enrollment of 54 with a daily attendance of 47. Mrs. S. R. Smith was director of music and Mrs. C. L.'Tyson and Patsy Callahan were pianists. Mrs. James Hudson and Mrs. Charles Cameron, assisted by Mrs. Bobby Lassiter and Mrs. William Duffey, were in charge of the Kindergarten Class. In the Primary Department, Mrs. Rob ert Coffey and Miss Carol Foster taught, assisted by Miss Jsan- nette MuUinix. Mrs. Wooten di rected the study in the Junior Department; Mrs. H. M. Klingen-: Schmidt was in charge of the crafts, and Mr. Wooten led a song session. Mrs. Lewis Frye served as chairman of the committee for refreshments. Circle Meets Mrs. G. E. Griffin was hostess to Methodist Circle I for the Au gust meeting Tuesday evening in the Church Fellowship Hall. Mrs. Charles Gschwind, chairman, presided and conducted the rou tine business session. The pro gram topic, “Music Contributes to Christian Growth,” was led by Mrs. Russell Bullock. Assist ing the leader with related parts were Mrs. S. R. Smith, Mrs. R. R. Thomas, Mrs. H. A. Borst and Mrs. Griffin. The hostess served refreshments to the 15 members present. MYF Outing As a planned part of their Au gust program members of the MYF of the Vass Methodist Church enjoyed a trip Sunday at Carolina Beach, complete with a picnic lunch. Members making the trip with their MYF coun selor, Miss Jeanette MuUinix, were Linda Frye, Stevie Fiye, Ann Thomas, Pat Coffey, Daimy Williams, Marjorie L. Bullock and Harold Blake. Accompanying the members as guests were Lar ry Matthews, Jimmy Hutchinson, Debbie Johnson and Mrs. Russell Debbie oJhnson and Mrs. RusseU Bullock, who also assisted with transportation. Miss MulUnix is servilng as counselor for the MYF while she is home for summer vacation from UNC-G, where she wiU be a senior this fall. Attends Funeral Mrs. Charles Gschwind attend ed funeral services for an aunt, Mrs. Annie Stanton at the Anti och Presbyterian Church near Raeford Sunday afternoon. Personals Mrs. Clarence Womble and children, Lynn and Joseph Wom ble, Mrs. Burton Danley and chil dren, Kathy and Jackie Danley, accompanied Miss Nancy Douglas of Tramway to Atlanta, Ga., Fri day evening, where she left Sat urday morning by plane for a vis it with her parents in CaUfomia. The party motored on to Rock Springs, Ga. for a visit until Monday with Mrs. Womble’s son- in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ramey and daughter, Sandra, who accompanied them home for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Graham spent the weekend in Greensboro with Mr. and Mrs. Julian LesUe.
