ORDER RESTORED
In celebrating Constitution
Week, we should remember the
condition of our country under
the Articles of Confederation.
The prevailing order was of
weakness and disorder. Unem
ployment and bankruptcy were
prevalent. Within five years after
the adoption of the Constitution
there was universal prosperity.
The United States had credit
around the world. Law and order
reigned throughout the country.
Security and opportunity were so
attractive that people all over
the world longed to settle here.

Knights Romp Over Ellerbe 26-6
By JOHN McLaughlin
Coach Tony Trentini’s South
ern Pines High School Blue
Knights rolled to their fifth con
secutive victory when they de
feated Ellerbe High School, 26-
3, Friday night at Memorial
Field.
In the first period. Southern
Pines’s Johnny Rowe blocked an
Ellerbe fourth-down punt to give
the Knights possession of the
ball on the Ellerbe 32 yard line.
Five plays later. Quarterback
Ricky Johnson rolled over from
two yards out for the touchdown.
The extra point attempt, a pass
from Johnson to Harry Webb,
was incomplete. Southern Pines
led at the end of the first quar
ter, 6-0.
Early in the second quarter,
the Knights’ Doug Morrison
blocked another Ellerbe punt.
Hal Hassenfelt picked the ball
up and raced 17 yards for a
touchdown. Peter Pezzi ran for
the extra point.
After the ensuing kickoff, the
Ellerbe Wildcats drove 58 yards
to the Southern Pines 7-yard
line in eight plays. On the third
down, the Wildcat Quarterback,
Joe Dunn, faded back to pass.
Southern Pines’s Peter Pezzi
snatched the ball away from the
intended receiver on the South
ern Pines two-yard line and
raced 98 yards for a touchdown.
James Mallow ran for the extra
point. At halftime, the Blue
Kni.ghts led, 20-0.
After receiving the kickoff at
the beginning of the third per
iod, the Knights drove 75 yards
in 13 plays for another touch
down. Halfback James Mallow
scored from seven yards out.
Danny Crowley carried on the
extra point attempt, but was un
successful.
Ellerbe scored its lone touch
down in the final quarter on a
64-yard drive. The Ellerbe right
halfback, udson, scored on a one-
yard plunge.
Coaches Trentini and Larry
Addleton were pleased with the
20-0 halftime cushion, which al
lowed for ample substitutions.
Penalties hampered the Blue
Knights’ attack throughout the
game, but Coach Trentini ex
pects to iron out some .of the
Knights’ lapses which were ins
trumental in these penalties.
On Friday, October 16, the
Knights .iourney to Rowland for
a game with Rowland High
School. A tough contest is an
ticipated by Coach Trentini and
his squad. It is hoped a large
turnout of local fans will attend.
