PTA Harvest Sale
The PTA will have its annual
Harvest Auction Sale on Monday
evening at 7:30 November 16 in
the Sinclair Gymnasium. Pre-
ceeding the sale an “Ed Sulli
van” type program will be pre
sented utilizing student talent.
In charge of this program are
Mrs. Allan McDonald, PTA pro
gram chairman; Mrs. W. M.
Thompson, Sponsor Assembly
Committee and Stephen Lisk,
president of the Student Or
ganization.
Kimes Blake and Reece Gra
ham, co-chairman of the Budget
and. Finance Committee, and
sponsor for the sale, announce
that door prizes will be given
away.
All non-perishable items can
be brought to the school office
on Friday. All other items should
be brought to the school office on
Monday. The goods will be
transferred to the gym when the
sale takes palce.
A. B. Parker, auctioneer of
Vass, has again volunteered his
services. This project will help
raise money to support the ac
tivities proposed by the PTA for
this school year.
Joint Meeting
The Sandspur and Woman’s
Clubs will meet jointly tonight,
Thursday at 8 o’clock at the
school for an “Evening at the
Ballet.” Mrs. Bill Poley is pro
gram chairman.

Car Is Delayed
In Nightly Duty
The prowl car authorized for
night duty by the Moore County
commissioners, to provide 24-
hour service by the sheriff’s de
partment had not started its
rounds early this week.
While the commissioners ex
pected and announced that it
would go on duty the night of
November 2, and every night
thereafter, a hitch was encoun
tered in regard to the equip
ment. Decision as to just what
equipment it will need, and how
much, are expected to be made
this week.

Memorial Service
The McDuffie Post 303 and the
Joseph J. Hinson Post 12 of Car
thage had a joint Memorial
Service Sunday afternoon at Mt.
Carmel Church Cemetery for
Henry A. Richardson of the
United States Navy who was
buried at sea during World War
II. The Rev. Joseph H. Kinkle,
pastor of the Cameron Methodist
Church, officiated at the service
with Commander Marvin Black
of the McDuffie Post and the
Legionnaires participating. Mr.
Richardson was the son of Mrs.
Hugh A. Richardson and the late
Mr. Richardson.

ed from the sheriff’s office, iden
tifying markings are being put
on the car, which will be staffed
by Special Deputy Ed Cockman,
with one of the three regular
deputies taking weekly turns.
Actually, the delay hasn’t mat
tered too much as no calls have
come in for night service so far
this month, it was learned.

Hospital Gift Shop
Mrs. Reece Graham and Mrs.
Holt McNeill had the pleasure of
taking gifts to the Veteran’s Hos
pital in Fayetteville on Tuesday.
These articles, unwrapped, were
added to the Christmas gift room
at the hospital where the pa
tients could select articles for
their families. Everything was
new and beautiful, slips, hose,
blouses along with 18 lovely
dolls dressed by the junior mem
bers of the auxiliary. The Mc
Duffie Post of which Mrs. Mar
vin Black is president, participa
ted in this nationwide project of
the Legion Auxiliary.
Divided Wins
The High School Basketball
teams divided wins with Hoff
man at the games here Friday
night. Pete Garner was high
scorer for West End which help
ed his team to a victory of 75-42.
C. R. Smith followed with 12
points. Jean Monroe scored 17
points and Becky Markham 6
points, just not quite enough to
win; the final score was 31-33 in
favor of Hoffman.
Holly Grove Club
Mrs. George Cheney was host
ess to the Holly Grove Home
Demonstration Club Friday eve
ning and Mrs. Velma Currie pre
sided and gave a devotional. Mrs.
Currie attended a luncheon giv
en by Mrs. Jean Hubbard, Moore
County Home Economics Agent
and her staff, and she distributed
recipes of food which was serv
ed. Made from the recipes was
raspberry pie which Mrs. Currie
prepared and served the club
members at the meeting.

which they had read from the
recommended list and turned in
to the president the number!

The club will attend the family'
night supper for the county unit
on Friday night, November 13
at Union Pines School.
On December 12, the mem
bers will have a Christmas Party
for their families and friends.
Mock Election
The high school Student Or
ganization, with the aid of the
Social Studies Department has
conducted a small-scale election
of the national, state and coun
ty leaders; the purpose, to teach
future voters the mechanics of
an election. Each home room
chose two sets of electors, one
for each party. The number of
electors was decided by the
number of students in each
home room—one elector for each
ten students.
On November 2, two represen
tatives from each class spoke on
the candidates. Jane Jackson, J.
E. Bost, Janice Gordon, and Dale
Martin spoke for President John
son. Speaking for Goldwater
