North Carolina State Uni versity in order to determine how it reacts. Research on sulphur is be ing undertaken by Dr. Wil liam P. Tucker, assistant pro fessor of chemistry at NCSU. The National Science Foun dation has allocated $24,400 for the study. Graduate students M. Paul Btill of Southern Pines, can didate for a master’s degree, and Ph. D. Candidate Glenn Roof of Durham, are assist ing in the research. Dr. Tucker pointed out that the research is being con ducted in order to under stand how sulphur combines with other atoms, in partic ular, in organic molecules. Re said that sulphur seems to ad as a stabilizing agent in other compounds, and the in vestigation will seek to de termine why. He was to go from here for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fitanides, in Ogun- quit, Maine, until early in Au gust. His father operates the Boston Shoe Shop here in the fall, winter and spring and has a shop in Ogunquit dur ing the summer. From Ogunquit, Philip Fit anides will go to Chicago j where he will work as a man- agement trainee for the John R. Thomason Co., owner of I three chains of cafeterias, res taurants and coffee houses in the Mid-West and West, inclu ding several large food service operations. The Florida State Univer- Hotel and Restaurant Management program offers training in all aspects of plan ning, setting up and operating establishments in these fields. Today, the South accounts for 60 per cent of the nation’s total pulpwood production with 20 per cent of the materi al coming from the leftovers of Southern Pine lumbering. Other sources of pulpwood are sawdust and periodic thin nings of trees designed to give sawtimber room for healthy growth.
