After a visit to the vet’s, his owner found he had a couple of tumors; she took him back to the veterinary hospital, where they gave her medication for him. She gave it to Charlie and the tumors became smaller. “But Charlie cried and cried.” Teeing Off (Continued From Page 1-C) Finally, she was told he would have to be put away. She brought him home from that visit to the hospital, but he still cried and cried. So a neigh bor took him back and Charlie was put to sleep, on Easter Day. He is buried in the dog cemetery back of the veterinary hospital. Irene misses him terribly. So do the Chihuahuas. She is con sidering getting a shepherd to serve as a watchdog. But there’ll never be another “Charlie.” Thn^ h for participants in the Bike-A- Thon held Saturday to benefit St. Jude’s Children Hospital was sponsored by local grocery stores and hosted by Mr. and Mrs. John McKeithen at Lake Pinehurst marina. \ Fred L. NO, 51649 **Perhaps the most fascinating golf course home in PinehursT* Tired of cold winters and city living in Indianapolis, G. Robert Horton, D.D.S., P.A., and his wife, Deborah, decided to move to Pinehurst, where two weeks ago. Dr. Horton opened offices in the Pinehurst Professional Center “for the practice of family dentistry.” Also influencing his decision to make a home for himself and his family in the Sandhills, “a little infatuation with the state as a whole.” Asked if he played golf, he admitted “it did have something to do with my coming here.” As “a kid,” Dr. Horton had come down to Pinehurst from his native Springfield, Ohio with his dad five or six times. During his high school years in Springfield Bob Horton was on the golf team. After living here since July, he feels “it’s a great place-the people are fantastic-I haven’t regretted a minute.” Dr. Horton attended undergraduate school at Indiana University in Bloomington. He obtained a Master’s degree in immunology following two years post-graduate study at Indiana University Medical Center. Having by then decided on his ' career, he went on to complete the course at Indiana University School of Dentistry, where he graduated in July, 1980. He and his wife, the former Deborah Daniels of Marshall, Mich., met at Indiana U. when she was visiting his roommate. They were married in 1973 and she, “along with my parents, put me through school.” Deborah has had several jobs in a dental capacity, as a dental assistant, in inventory management in a dental supply company and she also worked for a doctor. She plans to help him in the Pinehurst office on Saturday mornings but most of her time is taken up with their daughter, Natalie, a year old yesterday. Deborah doesn’t play golf but she is “so supportive of me,” her husband says. Her motivation for moving here was also the aesthetic beauty of the area and the climate. A friend who has a home at the Country Club of North Carolina, where he spends six months of the year, mentioned the Pinehurst Surgical Clinic to Horton when he was deciding where to locate his practice. Coming to Pinehurst to show his wife where he used to vacation, Dr. Horton talked to people on the street about whether the situation was adequate for his speciality. “I talked to dentists in the area, they were all very honest with me and it was not discouraging,” added Dr. Horton. So they moved to Pinehurst, where they are renting a home; Horton took his State Board exam in December, didn’t hear the results from that until January and “about the middle of January, I found out my situation was ‘go’ and began to negotiate with Pineland Realty about this space.” In early February, while his offices in the Pinehurst Professional Center were being readied. Dr. Horton began working two and a half days a week at McCain Correctional Center, a schedule he will continue. The Center serves 11 counties. His local office hours, for which appointments should be made by a call to 295-4115, are: Mondays, 8:30-12 noon and 2-8 p.m.; Wednesdays, 2-8 p.m.; Fridays, 8:30-noon and 2-5 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30-12. His dental assistant is Dottie Bonner. She and her husband, retired from a career in the Air Force and now in real estate, DENTAL OFFICE — G.
