Ills election to the highest office in tlie organization of veterans was unanimous. The national encampment was held in Los Angeles recently. It is the custom in the G. A. It. to select the commander in chief from the east and tbe west alternately. At tbe national encampment in 1911. which was held in Rochester. N. Y., Judge Harvey M. Trimble of Illinois was chosen, so this year it was tbe east’s turn. Judge Beers and General Daniel E. Sickles of .New York were caudi dates, lint Mr. Sickles withdrew before tbe election. Judge Beers doubtless would have been elected in any event, as he went to tbe encampment with the backing of all tbe New England states and with pledges of support tfroni other quarters In tbe event of a ■contest. Alfred B. Beers was born in New Rochelle. N. Y.. on April 23, 1845.
