Selma Selma. April 15.—Mr. W. D. Moye, of Goldsboro, was the guest of friends in the city Sunday. Coach T. S. Cheek, of the Shelby high school was a welcome visitor in the city during the Easter holidays. Mr. L. J. Inick, of Dun Barach, at tended the Creech-Raiford wedding Saturday, and spent the Easter hol idays with his daughter, Mrs. O. P. Raiford. Mr. and Mrs. George F. Brietz and son, Franklin, and Mrs. L. D. Deb 11am have returned from Winston Salem where they attended the Mo ravian Easter services. Messrs. John Morgan and Melvin Whitley of Duke University, Jesse Barden of State College, Joseph Tem ple, Landis Brown, H. Easom and Warrick Debnam of Universitey of N. C., and Misses Ethel Corbett, Ma bel Nfordan, Esther Lee, Lucile Shu ler, Rosa Pope and Martha Ward, of N. C. C. W., all spent the Easter hol idays in Selma with relatives. Mr. C. W. Richardson of Goldsboro spent Sunday here with his mother, Mrs. William Richardson. Miss Mary Woodley from Cres well, has been the guest of Miss Ruth Fulghum this week. Misses Esther Lee, Babel Nordan, Ruth and Sadie Fulghum and Mary Woodley shopped in Raleigh Satur day. Mr. r. R. Fulghum and daughter, Miss Ruth, Miss Breattie Corbett and Mrs. A. W. Fulghum spent Thursday in Wilson with Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Biggs. Mr. and Mrs. William A. Couch, of Durham, spent last week end with Mr. and Mr . Hunter Prif?. Mr. Charliu-sftfhnson, of Paris, Tex., is visiting his brother, Dr. W. B. John son; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Kdgerton and little daughter, Jean, have returned to Goldsboro after a visit hero to Mrs. S. E. Edgerton. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Parker, of Smithfield, were the guests of Dr. and Mrs. W. B. Johnson Sunday. Miss Orie Moseley and Mrs. Jack Saunders of Kinston arrived Monday to visit Mrs. J. B. Person and attend the Exposition. Mrs. Fannie Moseley and Mrs. Wil liam Faulkner and two children of Kinston are spending this week with Mrs. J. B. Person. Mrs. S. E. Leonard, of Raleigh, is visiting the family of Mr. W. II. Eth eredge and attending the Exposition. Miss Thelma Wooten, Kinston's Queen, was the guest of Mrs. J. B. Person Wednesday. Misses Garland Stoneham and Lo is Smith spent Saturday in South Carolina. Miss Mary Martin spent the Eas ter holidays with relatives near Win ston-Salem. Dr. and Mrs. F. M. Aycock, of Wil son, Mr. J. B. Aycock of Lucama, and Misses Mary Lamb and Mary S. Per kinson, of Buckhorn, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Aycock Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Eason spent the week end in Durham with rela tives. Mrs. W. T. Mitchell, of Durham, was the guest of Mrs. A. K. Eason lrjt week. Prof. N. G. Woodlief spent Sunday with relatives in Cary. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Richardson, Jr., Miss Georgiana Ashworth, Miss Mary E. Parker and Miss Eva Rich ardson attended the ball game in Ra leigh Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. De Warner Richard son, of Durham, spent the Easter hol idays here with Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Richardson. Mr. R. L. Ray is in Washington, D. C., on business this week. Clayton Clayton, April 15,—Miss Helen At kinson is spending the week in Golds boro, the truest of Mrs. William C. Toler. Miss Ethel Barham and friend, Miss Viola Godwin, of Selma, spent last week end visiting: Mr. and Mrs. Jesse C. Ellis. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Vinson and two children, James Thomas and John Arche, spent Monday with rel atives in Smithfield. Mrs. Warren McCullers returned Tuesday from a visit to her parents at Warsaw. Misses Carrie Jones, Maie Garner and Bessie Connor, students at Elon College, spent the week end at the Pythian Home. Miss Helen Askew, of the Clayton school (acuity, spent the taster holi days with relatives in Ahoskie. Misses Mamie Morgan and Allie Pierce, of the Smithfield graded school faculty, were in town last Thursday evening to attend “Never Touched Me”, presented by the Sen ior Class of Clayton high school. Messrs. H. G. Pope, Jesse C. Ellis, and A. F. Arthur attended the ball game in Raleigh last Monday after noon between the Capitals and the New York Giants. Charming in every detail was the Bridge party given by Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Penn Wednesday evening, Ap ril 8th, in honor of Miss Fannie Foy and Mrs. Emmet H. Stegar, of Reids ville. A profusion of dogwood blos soms and spring flowers were used most effectively for decoration in the reception hall, parlor and music room. Five tables of bridge and one of rook were beautifully arranged for the games, and places were found by tally cards bearing an emblem of spring. At each place were unique Easter novelties of candy. After a number of spirited progressions, the score cards were collected and the count proved Miss Dorothy Burnett and Mrs. W. It. Scott, winners of the high score. They were presented prizes with an appropriate little verse for each by Mrs. Hugh A. Page. Mrs. Penn presented the honorees with handsome linein handkerchiefs. All the prizes were wrapped in the Easter colors of purple and white. The pastors served a most delicious salad course with sliced tomatoes, spiced cherries, saltines, cheese straws, and iced tea. After this course home-made mints, for which the hostess is justly famous, were passed in crystal compotes. Pleasant Grove Misses Edla and Mary Adams, ac companied by Misses Gladys and Thelma Hanks, attended the field day exercises of Wake County schools at Raleigh last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. J. W, Williams, of McCullers, were here Sunday after noon. Mr. Henry Bryan, of Newton 1 Grove, came last Friday to take Miss Luna Williams, one of the teachers of Pleasant Grove school, back to her home at Newton Grove to spend Easter with her mother. Miss Margaret Rich, a student at Louisburg College, is home for the Easter holidays. Miss Nancy Moose, a member of the high school faculty here, is spend ing the Easter holidays in Greensbo ro with her parents. Mr. Carl Lewis is spending the Plaster holidays with friends in Sou thern Tines. Mrs. C. W. Boren, of Greensboro, arrived Wednesday to spend several days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Daughtry and family visited Mr. Dempsey Daugh try in Stevens Chapel Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Will Eason and chil dren and Mr. and Mrs. Jamon Eason visited the family of Mr. Arthur Pitt man in Branch Chapel section Sun day. Ex-Sheriff Massey and Mr .J. J. Miss Cornelia Powell, of N. C. C. W., Greensboro, spent Easter with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Pow ell. Mr. Jim Riley, of Raleigh, called on friends here Sunday. Mr. Riley lived in this community twenty-seven years ago and was looking over his old tramping grounds. Smithfield, Route 2,April 17. Corbett-Hatcher The fiddlers convention was quite a success. Every one thoroughly en joyed it and a neat sum was added to our lighting budget. Mr. and Mrs. Jarman Sullivan, of Kenly, spent Sunday with their pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Sullivan. Mr. S. E. Hatcher, who has been confined to his bed for several days with flu, is improving. Miss Lou Bailey, of Kenly, has re turned home after visiting relatives in this community. We regret to state that Mrs. Har vey Parker still continues ill at Rex Hospital, Raleigh. Mfs. W. W. Massey, of Apex, is spending the week end with her pa rents, Mr. and Mrs .J. A. Eason. Misses Mamie and Minnie Bailey, who have been spending the Easter holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Bailey, have returned to >:. c. c. w. Mr. Styron, pastor of the Free Will Baptist church here, preach ed a special Easter Sermon Sunday morning to a house overflowing. The sermon was very good and the special music was much enjoyed. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Denning, of Selma, visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Denning, Sunday. Mrs. Cora Fitzgerald and daughter, Caroline, of Micro, were guests of Mrs. Floyd C. Price Saturday night. Mr. Fred Gaylor, of Rocky Mount, spent Easter at home with his fami ly. Miss Sarah Oliver, who has been spending the Easter holidays at home, returned to Raleigh Monday to re sume her studies at Meredith College Miss Johnnie Watson, who is at tending the Training School at Green ville, spent the week end at home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.
