EARLY DISCOVERY IS CURE OF TUBERCULOSIS Sanatorium, July 9.Early diagno sis and sanatorium treatment mean the cure of 89 out of every 100 cases of tuberculosis, figures at the North Carolina Sanatorium for the past eleven years show. Found in its early stages and the proper treatment giv en, more people recover from tuber culosis than from any of the other major diseases. The first symptoms of the disease are obscure and hard even for a doc tor wto rightly diasnose. Often the symptoms of tuberculosis are taken by both doctor and patient to be some oher disease. A cough is thought by the majority of people to be always the first symptom of tut&culosis. It is not- Frequently a cough does not appear until the disease has passed the early stages. A loss of weight should put one on guard. Loss of appetite and indiges tion is often tuberculosis and not stomach trouble. A slight blood spitting, pain in the chest or pleurisy, and a subnormal temperature in the morning—rising a degree or a de gree and a half during the day are practically always symptoms of tu berculosis. A person with any of these symp toms should go at once to a doctor and have a thorough examination. The North Carolina Sanitorium employs two doctors, specialists in tuberculosis, to hold clinics for the diagnosis of tuberculosis throughout the State- A clinic is also held at the N. C. Sanatorium every morning except Sunday from 8 to 11. These clinics are all free of charge. Ar rangement for examination can be made by writing the Superintendent, Sanatorium, N. C. There is no need of any person in North Carolina be coming seriously ill because of lack of diagnostic facilities. McLamb, who live in Meadow township, Johnston county, was instantly killed late Thursday afternoon when a car driv en by the mother struck an embank ment and threw the child out. The accident occurred on he highway near the Johnston-Sampson line. The infant was on the rear seat with two other children when Mrs. McLamb lost control of the car and in some manner was thrown out. The mother is prostrate with grief. Outdoing Them Both An Englishmen and an Irishman lived in a coast town and both owned boats. One day the Englishman de cided to christen his, and on the stern painted: “Henry the Eighth.” “An’ wot the diwle will I name mine?” mused the Irishman.
