The Farmers To Get Good Ideas At Fair FAIR OFFICERS ARE EFFICIENT Success of Fair Largely Depends Upon Man agement; Heads of De partments. ADD NEW FEATURES One of the chief factors in the success of a fair is its manage ment. The directors did not lose sight of this fact when they se lected the officers and heads of the various departments. Noble, of Selma; vice president C. M. Wilson Wilson’s Mills; secretary-treasurer J. A. Narfon of this city; assistant sec retary, Mrs. Beatrice Godwin, also of this city. The directors are: E. S. Edmundson. J. II. Woodall and W. D. Hood. The finance com mittee includes C. M. Whlson, F H. Brooks ami W. D. Avera. Hooper Sanders, wil have charge of Individual Corn munity Farm and Field Crop ex hibit's, T. W. The Fair Association last yeai j was unable to meet all its obli i gations. The premiums were noi paid and it was necessary to is I sue due bills for those. The asso ciation hopes this year not only t< make expenses of the fair thi; jfall but to have enough in th< I treasury to pay last year’s prem j ium winners. — CANNED FRUITS ANI) VEGETABLES Mrs. J. A. Wellons and Mrs. J A. Narron have charge of ohi: department. These two ladies ar> known all over Johnston county They are capable in every respec and will care for your wants ii every way. Fair Officials Are Plan ning A Fair That Will Be Interesting, Stimu lating and Instructive To The Farmers. LABOR SAVING TOOLS By C. H. GRADY The officials of the Johnston County Fair Association have spared themselves in *o way to make this Fair intereating, stimu lating and instructive to the far mer. Farmers should take advan tage of this opportunity of meet I ing with neighboring farmers and ! discussing with them plan's to im prove farming conditions in John ston county. A? the fair one will find many new and improved meth j ods of farming being demonstrat ed. One will meet many new friends and return home feeding that he has spent a profitable day. Sometimes a person may be suf fering from lack of work or com plaining that he wants work. He might work to his heart’s content and with no man’s leave if he chose to carry stone* from the bottom to the top of a hill and back again. The truth is he is suf fering from lack of income. He wants work as a means of income not for the love of hard labor. If people wanted work for fhe sake 'of work alone then why plough when you could scratch up the land with a stick and thus create more work? Why use a wagoln, truck, or railway when it wo»ld require more work to drag the load by hand? The whole world, men, women, and children, require food, cloth ing. shelter, fuel, and other nec essities of life, and today, this is being acquired with tSse least amount of labor possible. The pop ulation of the world has so con gregated as to aid each other in the saving of labor, improved ma chinery and labor saving devices are in universal use. The division of labor has largely and increas ingly helped man to economize la bor. By following a particular line one man became an expert far mer, another an expert carpenter, :*nother an expert builder, an other an expert tailor, another an expert merchant', and so on down the line of trades and professions. By reason of this specialization each are able to do better work in their respective fields. Thus man has learned to save labor for each other and secure more in come from his efio^ts than he would if each man tried ?o be a “Jack-of-all-trades. In an effort to assist the far mers of Johnston county, the Fair officials will have an demonstra tion at the fair labor saving farm ing implements. The farmer must save his labor a" well as the oth er industries of the country. Come to the fair and see them demon strated. V .\I\lliU LilOl VM PREMU MS OFFERED The premiu mlist this year of the Johnston County Fair offers in every department a varied list of premiums for first and second prizes on the exhibits brought to , the fair. The premiums will be paid this year without fad. Rain insurance has been taken by the officials of the fair so that rainy weather will make no difference, only we want the people of John ston county and surrounding coun ■ ties to come to one of the best fairs that ever has been staged in ' Johnston county. Call Sor a prem • ium list if you have not yet re ceived one. Call 268 or 189 or drop i a card to Box 110, John A. Narron, 1 Secretary, and one will be sent ■, you. ! i --- ■■ - .
