Quite a number of our people attended the movie “Classmates” at Selma Thursday night in which the story of the scene was taken from our town. We feel proud of our little town being on the screen. Miss Louise Braswell and Mr. Albert Smith visited in Smithfield Saturday night. Messrs. Wallace and George Strickland were callers in the Yel vington Grove section Thursday. Pleasant Grove Miss Thelma Hawks, who is at tending school at Buie’s Creek, was at home for the week end. Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Adams and family spent Sunday near Raleigh with relatives. Mrs. J. S. Ogburn of near Smithfield, spent the week end here with her daughter, Mrs. R. C- Ogburn. Miss Vennie Wood of near Four Oaks, was the week end guest of Miss Claudia Lee Stephenson. Mr. and Mrs. J. Mr. Klutz preached at Spence Chepel Presbyterian church Sunday morning and at Providence Presbyterian church Sunday night. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Parker, of Raleigh, attended the union meet ing at Pleasant Grove Baptist church Sunday. Friends of Mr. R. J. Massengill here will be interested to learn of his marriage with Miss Bertha Jenkins of Durham. The mariage took place in Durham Wednesday evening, Nov. 25. We wish for the young couple a long life of hap piness. Miss Oldham, who is teaching at Piney Grove school, spent Thanks giving at her home in Holly Springs. Mr. J. P. Barbour is improving after being confined to her bed for some time. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Myatt and children spent last Sunday in the Smith school section with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Penny. Mr. and Mrs. R. M. The friends of the young couple wish them much suc cess and happiness through life. Miss Margaret McLemore, of Smithfield, spent several days re cently with Miss Mina Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Boney, of Walace, and Mr. and Mrs. Hally Poole, of Jackson Springs, spent last week end with their mother, Mrs. E. N. Booker. Miss Ethel Barbour of Smith field, spent the week end at her home in this section. Miss Monevah Barbour attend ed the Golden Rule service held in the Victory theatre at Smithfield last Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. D. JL Austin, of near Clayton, spent last Sunday at the home of Mr. J. E. Jones. Misses Edwina Harrison and Grace Talton, of the Baptist Cen ter section, spent last week end with Miss Ruth Lassiter. We had a very large attendance at our Christian Endeavor last Friday night. Miss Charlotte Bar bour was the leader and Rev. A. T. Lassiter made a very good talk Our leader for next Friday night will be Mr. Malon Price. Every body is invited to come and join us on Friday night at seven o’ clock. We will be glad to have you with us. Clayton, Route 1, Dec. 2. Blackman Grove Miss Vilen Keen of Four Oaks, visited her grandparents, Mr- and Mrs. J. M- Blackman, last week end. She also attended Sunday school. Miss Lolly Williams, the pri mary teacher of Rock Hill, spent Thanksgiving with her sister, Mrs. Wigs, of Smithfield. Miss Vennie Wood, of Four Oaks, spent a few days with Miss Claudia Lee Stephenson of Wil low Springs, returning home Sun day afternoon. W'e are all sorry to know of Mr. B. K. Lee’s sickness, but we hope him a speedy recovery. He has been sick now for several days. Miss Pearl Phelps of Fuquay. has been spending a tew weeks! with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. K. Lee. Among those from Blackman Grove who attended the training school at Four Oaks last week were the following: Mr- Garrett Lee, Misses Pearl Phelps, Lolly Williams, and Vennie Wood. A great number of Blackman’s Gro%re people attended the minstrel at the Four Oaks high school last Wednesday night. Mr. Tyron George, a student at Chapel Hill, spent Thanksgiving with his parents. There was Thanksgiving serv ice held at Blackman’s Grove on Thursday by Rev. J. A. Ivey of Four Oaks. People let’s keep our Sunday school, junior and senior B. Y. P. U. going. Let’s keep the work go ing by going ourselves. Four Oaks, Route 2. Meadow Mrs. Lollie Gardner Cole visited Mrs. William Boyett in the Glen wood section last Sunday. Mr. Joseph Johnson, of Four Oaks, spent/ Sunday with his un cle, Mr. P. G. Lee. Mr. Nathan Whitton and fam ily spent the week end with Mrs. Annie Dunn, of Duke. Miss Vada Lawhon spent the week end at home. She is teach ing at Allen school in Ingrams township. Mr. D. .JWood killed a hog last week that weighed nine hun dred pounds. He got about eight stands of lar dout of it. Miss Annie Lee had her tonsils removed last week. Mr. L. A. Johnson spent a short while with his mother, Mrs. H. M. Johnson, during the past week. Mr. Moore Wood is out again after being confined to his room for several days. The union meeting was largely attended at Reedy Prong Baptist church last Saturday and Sunday. The teachers of Meadow high school spent Thanksgiving out of the community. The community meeting was en joyed very much by all present last Thursday night. Mrs. Eva Flowers played the piano and Miss Cohen the violin. We invite all the community to come and be with Meadow at these meetings the last Thursday night inevery month. The people of the community met at Trinity Baptist church on Thanksgiving for prayer and wor ship. The Woman’s club met last Wed nesday and Miss Garrison dem onstrated making candy and sev eral other items of interest. Mir. and Mrs- Tim Eldridge spent the week end in the Glenn wood section. Rev. P. A. Pridgen spent a few days last week in Charlotte at. tending the Baptist/ state conven tion. He returned, however, in time to fill his regular appoint ments at Trinity and Glenwood Eider P. E. Johnson of near Four Oaks, filled the regular ap pointment of the pastor, Elder L A. Johnson, at; Reedy Prong. El der Johnson attended churcH at Coats. Elders Millard Westbrook and Exure Lee were also at Reedy Prong. Miss Monie Johnson spent last Sunday afternoon with Miss Ber tha Johnson. Several of the people of this section attended the fiddlers con vention at Newton Grove high school last Saturday night. Miss Myers of Burlington, ar rived at Meadow high school last week to begin work as sixth grade teacher, there being tzoo many stu dents for one teacher. We are sorry to note the death of Mr. and Mrs. Garland Gilbert’s child. The child had been sick for only a few days with pneumonia and collitis. The people of the community sincerely sympathize with the bereaved parents yet we know that God doeth all things well, and that their child is sweet ly resting in the arms of the Savior. Mr. Roland Barefoot and Miss Lillie Wood motored to South Carolina and were married last Sunday. Mr. Barefoot is the son of Mr. Nefson Barefoot of the Meadow comunity while Mrs. Barefoot is an attractive young woman of the Beulah section and is the daughter of Mr. Frank Wood. They have many friends in the community who wish them much success and happiness dur ing maried life. Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Johnson vis ited at the home of Mr. Telphar Lee last Sunday. The Meadow boys’ basketball team went to Princeton last Fri day afternoon for a game. Good playing was done on both sides and the score was almost a tie. The score was 16 and 14 in favor of the Princeton team. Mrs. J. L. Lee visited relatives in Smithfield last week end. Raiford had as her week end guests, Mrs. Dora Ham ilton and children and Mrs. Lil lie McDonald of Clio, S. C., and Mrs. 0. J. Finnegan, of Latta, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Driver spent Thanksgiving with relatives near La Grange. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Smith and children spent Sunday in Clayton. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Langley, of Durham, spent last week end with Mrs. Ellen Creech. Mr. M. J. Mameron visited his mother who is quite ill at Swann’s Station last Sunday. We regret to report Mrs. J. H. Jackson on the sick list. His many friends here and in the county will be glad to learn that Dr. R. J. Noble is conval escing rapidly from an operation at Rex hospital in Raleigh and expects to return to his home in Selma Sunday. Mrs. Henry M. Shine and little son and Miss Fannie Richardson, of Faison, arrived in the city last Tuesday to spend several days. Mr. A. M. Noble, of Smithfield, was a business visitor to Selma Monday. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Poole and Misses Mabel and Aldine Barnes spent Thanksgiving with relatives near Clayton. Mrs. Geo. D. Vick and children spent last week end in Greensboro with Mrs. B. Lacy Hoge. Mr. Erwin, of Mecklenburg county, accompanied Harry Can dler home from State college to spend Thanksgiving. Mrs. A. Z. Pearce has return ed from a two weeks’ visit to 'rel atives in Greensboro.
