State vs. Willie Barefoot charged
with assault with deadly weapon.
The defendant was found guilty
and was sentenced to the roads for
a term of twelve months ami to
pay a fine of $50 and costs. The
road sentence is to be suspended
upon condition that the defendant
does not violate any criminal law

two years and on condition that
the defendant pay $50 fine and
. cost.
State vs. San Hudson and Ern
est Hudson charged with assault
and assault upon female. San Hud
son not guilty. Ernest Hudson was
found guilty on both counts.
State vs. J. H. Holder charged
with burglary. Examination was
waived and defendant was bound
over to Superior court without
bond.
State vs. Wade Artis charged
with trespass. The defendant was j
found guilty and was sentenced to
the roads for term of thirty days
and pay cost. Hoad sentence is to
be suspended upon payment of
$10 fine and cost. Notice of appeal
was given.

ed with trespass. The defendant
was found guilty and was sentenc
ed to the roads for a term of

Now that receivers of the To
bacco Growers' Cooperative Asso
ciation are predicting a substantial
payment on participation certifi
cates, holders of these certificates
are naturally getting interested in
seeing to it that the records are
all in shape for them to collect. All
claims against the association must
be filed by March 1. 1028, and all
objections to claims by April 1,
1028. Regarding the holders of
participation certificates Mr.
James II. Fou, of Raleigh, one of
the receivers, gives The Progres
siva Farmer this authoritative of
ficial statement:
“Holders of participation certif
icates are not regarded strictly as
creditors. They are more nearly
analagous to stockholders In a cor
poration. The books of the associa
tion will be considered sufficient
proof of the validity of any partic
ipation certificate issued, provid
ed the certificate remains in the
hands of the original holder. There
fore the person to whom the cer
tificate was issued and who now
holds the- same will not be re
quired to make proof.
