odist Sunday school was held ar
the 'home of the 'retiring presi
dent, Mrs. C. S. Pulley, on Tues
day nl'g'ht at 7:30 o’clock. The fol
lowing new year’s program wis
piesided over by Mrs. J. W. Dar
den, who read the scripture les
son: A New Year’s motto, by Mrs.
F. A. Pike; Poem, ’’Let All Be
New,” by Miss Nettie Harris; a
prayer, by Mrs. A. J. Broughton.
The business session was eon
j ducted by the new president, Mrs.
G. C. Phillips, who appointed
committees for this year. Between
fifty and seventy-five dollars
j worth of groceries, fruit and toys
j were reported given to the needy
at Christmas. It was decided to
send out little aprons to rape
money for the class treasury.
Mrs. Pulley thanked the members
for their cooperation while sire
was president. The hostess assist
ed by her daughter, Miss Grace
Pulley, Mrs. F. A. Pike and Mrs.
G. C. Phillips served a chicken
salad course with hot coffee.

This is to advise the taxpayers of I
Johnston County that under Section 1
805 Public laws of North Carolina,
Session of 1929, beginning February
1, 1930 a penalty of one per cent will
be added to all unpaid taxes for the
year 1929. This penalty is not put on
by the County Commissioners but is
specifically prescribed in the above
section.
