RANAWAY from the Sub
Cuscriber, on Sunday night, the
( y 12th of March last, a negro wo-
pa man, named POLLy, about 28
ckSyears old, nearly five feet high,
yellow complexion, spare made, has o
mild look a:d genteel apper.rance, (for
a negro,) when well dressed; she is an
expert hand at roguery, and is well cal
culated to deceive unless tightly and
closely examined. She was seduced a
way by a black free negro, Carter New
born by name, a shoemaker by trade;
vho is about 30 years of age, 5 feet G or
8 inches high, thick set, has a pleasant
countenance and very white teeth,
which he shews very much when speak
ing cr laughing: hVis strongly suspect
ed of being a runaway slave. In my
former advertisement, I stated that from
threats which the wench made prior to
her elopement, they would, chang
ing their names, and getting forged free
papers, endeavor to make their escape
to some free state: since that time, they
have been lurking about Halifax town,
in the vicinity of which, they probably
sre at this time. All persons are for
ewarned from harboring or carrying off
said negro under the penalty of the law.
The above reward, with all reasonable
charges, will be paid for securing said
woman in any jail, so that I get her
again, or for her delivery to me.

A Sketch. -We witnessed a
spectacle last week, which we can-
not reirain ironi presenting to our
readers. It may be the means of
exciting reflection, if no effect.
There came along the street, a
lean, dirty, haggard horse, with
scarce substance enough to make
a shadow. He was fastened by
twine and rags and leather, toan
old horse cart, tliat looked as if it
was blown together by the wind.
In the cart was a man, apparently
about 50 years old, ragged, lame
and blinop attended by his son a
bout 14. The son alisrhted -took
a stone quart jug from the cart,
and assisted his father to get out.
The father topk the son's arm, and
thus 5 they passed from store to
store enquiring lor rum! On the
sightless eyeballs of the premature
old man on his trembling limbs
on his tattered, garments on
his cart, and horse, and harness
and (worst of all) on the boy, the
son that led him, was written
rum! He was made blind by in
teinperaiicel '
A duel was recently fought
in Florida between young Murat
and Col. Macomb of Tallahas
see, in which the former was
wounded but not severely.
A contented mind spreads ease
and cheerfulness around it.
