WASHINGTON, NOV. 16.
The Revenue.. ..Since penning a few
thoughts on the Revenue of the United
States, we. have it from undoubted au
thority, that the paragraphs which have
recently appeared in the newspapers on
this subject tend to produce an errone
ous impression on the public mind.
Ihe truth is, that the actual receipts
into the Treasury during the present
year, will fully equal the estimate pre
sented by the Secretary of the Treasury.
in his last annual report, tor the ensu
ing year, the Secretary presented no es
timate. . On recurring to his annual re
port of last year, we find that he antici
pated some falling off in the importa
tions of this year, as compared with
those of the past year. Nevertheless,
so far as the facts already known furnish
grounds for an opinion, there is good
reason to believe, that, instead of a de
ficiency, the actual receipts in the Trcs
ury, during the year 1827 will be fully
adequate to all the usual expenditures of
lhe Government... including the applica
tion of ten millions to the public debt...
although not as large as may have been
by some anticipated. Having ascertain
ed the true state of the case in reference
to this matter, we have thought it to be
our duly to present it to our readers.

North Carolina Gold Mines... .The
quantity of gold that is daily found in
and about Montgomery county is be
come so very important, that the officers
of the mint of the U. S. have offered
eagles, ready coined, weight for weight,
for the gold bullion as it comes from
the mines; but in Philadelphia thep
have lately been established no less than,
eight gold beaters, who offer to give
four per cent, .more than the current coin;
for they find the gold so pure and duc
tile, that nothing can exceed the excel
lence of the leaf gold made thereof.
Seven waggons passed through this
city lately, in one day, from Connecti
cut, laden with all kinds of tin ware, dry
goods, cutlery,'and various wares and
'merchandise, on their way to the gold
mines of Montgomery. They mean
principally to establish themselves at
Salisbury, where the gold will be taken
in barter, and thus a very lucrative trade
is carried on. The Banks, we hear, are
greatly benefited in North Carolina by
the gold found there, for they receive
bullion for their paper, which enable?
them to issue more and with perfect
