Nashville Male Jlcademy.
riMIE Trustees of the Nashville Male
, Academy,, take pleasure in inform
ing the Public, that they have at length
succeeded in employing the Rev. Mr.
John Armstrong, as Principal in this
Institution, This gentleman produces
the most satisfactory testimonials of his
pre-eminent qualifications as a Gentle
man, a Divine, and a Teacher. He is
a graduate of distinction in the Colum
bian College, D. C. from which, besides
his Diploma, he brings the most flatter
ing testimonials of character and ac
quirement, from tle Rev. Doctor
Staughton, President of the College, and
the Rev. 0. B. Brown, President of the
Board of Trustees besides the highest
recommendations from the Rev. E. Bap
tist, of Virginia, and very many other
distinguished names equally satisfacto
ry. Mr. Armstrong has taught the pre
sent year in the Carterville Academy,
Va. Dr. Wharton, and Dr. James, an.d
others of that place and vicinity, afford
the most ample testimonials of his suc
cess as a Teacher. To ail of which the
Trustees would superadd that in an in
terview with Mr. Armstrong, and an
examination of his credentials arid me
thod of . teaching, they are abundantly
satisfied, and can with pleasure and con
fidence recommend him to the public.
The School will go into operation on
the Sth day of January next. The price
of tuition will be, for Reading, Writ
ing, Arithmetic, &rc. SS 00 for En
glish Grammar, Geostranhu. Historu.
Jbc. S10 00 for Latin, Greek, French
Astronomy, Natural and Moral Phi
losophy, Mathematics, & all the higher
branches of Arts and Sciences, $12 00
per session, payable in advance.
The Trustees have obtained from Cha
pel-Hill the system of studies taught
there, and the course of studies in-thi
Academy, will be precisely such as to
prepare Students from this School, to
enter with ease ithe Freshman, Sopho
more, Junior, or even Senior Class of
our University.
The Trustees arc well aware of the in
conveniences that a young man labors
under who enters CoJIegv, having pur
sued a course of studies different from
that taught at the University; and they
are determined to have an eye to it.
Board can be had in respectable fami
lies in town, at $37 50 per session.
The character of Nashville is so well
established for health, thai it is deemed
unnecessary to say any thing here.
There are several never failing springs
of excellent water near the Academy.
The Trustees are convinced that no
Academy ever commenced under more
favorable auspices. Indeed, if a distin
guished Teacher, healthiness of situa
tion, cheapness of terms,, and vigilance
in the Guardians of the School, can re
commend it to a generous public, then
we are assured that this Institution will
be very liberally encouraged.

Hp HE EXERCISES for young gentle
men, at Hyde Park -Academy, pre
paratory to their admission into any of
our Universities or Colleges, and even
farther, if desired, will commence again
on the 2d Monday in January. Desi
rous of conducting the Institution on
principles of regularity and harmony,
and with a view, no less, to the improve
ment of those who may be committed
to my care, than to my own interest, the
number of Students will be limited;and
therefore, the first applicants will be re
ceived. In the course of the Spring and Sum
mer, it is expected that a periodical
School for instruction in Fencing, Draw
ing, Music, and Painting, will be put
into operation under the direction of M.
Do Granville, formerly a Colonel of Ga
valry in service of the Emperor .Napo
leon. An opportunity will thus be af
forded to young gentlemen, of acquiring
some knowledge of those elegant accom
plishments. In consequence of the hea
vy advance in the price of Provisions, a
small additional charge will be made for
Board and Tuition; but such, as not to
meet with the disapprobation of those
who are aware of the uncommon press
ure in this part of the country. The
charges however, must in every instance
be paid in advance.
If diligence, promptitude, and a faith
ful discharge of his duties, can entitle
the undersigned to a share of the public
patronage, he hopes 'to receive it; other
wise, he does not expect it.

Postscript. Knowing from experi
ence, that in the sale and survey of Lauds,
much injustice is frequently done, by
trusting to admeasurements with the
common Scale and Divider, I offer my
services to the Public as a calculator of
the Area of Right Lined Figures, on
principles which shall be incontcstably
and mathematically true. Every thing
necessary, will be, to obtain an experi
enced Surveyor to take the Field Notes,
and forward them to ma at Hyde Park,
N. C. All errors of ignorance, over
sight, or design, shall be detected; and
the calculation and an elegant Plat of the
Land made out, and immediately relum
ed. The charge for my services shall be
moderate, and always in proportion to
the labour performed, and the value of
the property. W. E. WEBB.

the prosperity of this School.
The Trustees have just cause to be
well satisfied with the unremitting exer
tions of the Superintendents of the Aca

Students, since their Examination in
June last. It is already known to the
Patrons of this School," that no distinc

the several classes, at the winter Exami
nation. This is only done at the June
Examination.
The Trustees hazard nothing in say
