"Who steals my purse steals trash tis
something nothing;
Twas mine, 'tis his, and has been slave to
thousands;
Bnt he that filches from me my good name,
Robs me of that which not enriches him,
And makes me poor indeed." Shakieare.
When a person's character is assailed,
an apology for intruding upon the Pub
lic would be deemed superfluous. On
my return from Petersburg, a few days
ao, I was surprised and mortified to
learn, that a report was in circulation
that I had run away, in consequence of
cebt, which report I view as a vile as
persion; I have however returned, and
an give my creditors every assurance
of speedy liquidation if not entire dis
charge. It is easy to propagate false
hood, but requires some ingenuity and
foresight to become an adept for were
I despicable enough to indulge a wish
to uctraud my creditors, there would be
no necessity (if I understand the Act of
Assembly) for absconding. As a de
fendant of respectable ancestry, I trust
t have inherited their principles ofhon
esty, and hope to die as I have lived,
:n honest man, in despite of the rancour
;lnu malignity of those vile traducers of
niy character.

IIALIxAX COUNTY, N. C.
There were originally two separate tracts
of this Land, the one known bv tho
PARHAM TRACT, the other by the
LOWE TRACT; they both abound
with a great . variety of never failing
springs, pure mountain air, and a great
variety of soil. On the Lowe Tract,
there is a branch between two and three
hundred yards wide, and three-fourths
of a mile in length, which upon trial has
proved to be first rale soil, producing
from eight to ten barrels of Corn per
acre; on the same tract is the celebrated
Blue marsh, containing from one hun
dred to an hundred and twenty acres of
made soil, or vegetable mould, from
three to four feet deep, as is shewn by
the cutting of a Canal and ditch last fall,
by Mr. Jelks, ,who owns part of the
marsh he has completely drained both
tracts the tract now to be sold will re
quire but little labor to prepare it for
cultivation, as heretofore the water in
winter and spring covered the land so
as to prevent the growth of any thing
but vegetable matter.
