Tarborough, Edgecombe County, N. C. Saturday, Jlugust 25, iS2. Vol IK No. i, Tfr,MBi ni rw irnnummTif in Whole No. io7. OJjicc of the Free Press, ) 1 Aug. 18, K27. J I frV This number closes the third t volume of the "Free Press" the first of its publication in this place. We em brace this opportunity to render to its patrons our unfeigned thanks for the en couragement which it has received, and to assure them of our determination to exert to the utmost the slender abilities we possess, to render it worthy of their support. The enquiry has frequently been made, whether an enlargement of our paper would not ensure it a greater extent of patronage when we look at the difficulties with which similar estab lishments in this section of the Slate are confessedly struggling, and their occa sional transfers and suspensions, we can not but hesitate to increase our expen ses with the prospect merely of a proba ble increase of income. We have to ex ercise at present the most rigid economy to avoid embarrassment we have but little to lose, and feel no inclination to jeopardize the property of others, well '.mowing that a failure in such cases is generally attributed to "extravagance, iticip. icily, or indiscretion' In com mon with the generality of mankind, we sre anxious to extend our business to ilie utmost limit, and would be much gratified to sec the Free Press make its appwiranf -e on a sheet of superior dimen sions from the support already extend ed to us, which we trust will be conti nued and increased, wc feel assured that at the doe of the ensuing volume we wiii le en.Vohd to present the Free Press tofts patrons in an enlarged and improved form. We would suggest to those unacquaint ed with newspaper usages, that it is not customary to renew subscriptions at the expiration of the year it is presumed that they will continue, unless a notifi cation to the contrary is given, which '.'.in be effected personally at the ensuing ' ouits, or through the medium of the Postmaster at whose office they receive their papers. 0 KO.
