Iist Tuesday night Tom Allen was oeiore .viayor nrocK on a charge of being drunk and disor derly on the streets. His line and cost, amounting to $3.95, he said he could raise if the officer would go with him to the lower street. In company with Policeman Mc Quage he went to look for the money. As they passed the store of Mr. C. M. Hruner, the otlicei saw Will Itamsav, another colored man wanted in Monroe f r selling whiskey. He undertook to ar rest him. and was readinir the warrant when Will pushed him aside and ran off in the direction of Mr. J. J. Little's stables. The officer drew his pistol, a41-calibre ColLs. and fired twice, at the ground he says, in order to fright en the negro. Nothing was heard of the fugitive from justice until next day when Dr. liennett was sent for to see him at the home of his cousin near the toll house Here he was found with an ugly hole io his back made by the big ball, 3et ho apieared to be in a very jolly mood and was smoking when the Doctor arrived. A warrant was issued for Officer McQuage and he was given a pre liminary hearing before Ksq. Kog ers. The State was represented by Messrs. H. H. McLendon and J. A. Lockhart and Coxe& Brock apieared for Mr. McQuage. Af ter quite a lively tilt between coun sel, Iwi. Rogers agreed to grant bail as Dr. Hennett' was of the opinion that Ramsay would recov- er. I vail was nxeo at ssuu ana a large number of citizens volun teered and put their names to the bond. Later, Mr. McQuage arrested Tom Allen, who had run off dur ing the excitement. The officer also tired when Tom ran" and one of the shots appeared to have knocked a shoe heel off for him. 3f"Fresh lot of Martin Drug Co.'s. Cut Glass at Solllvia-Crlrr Mirrlace.
