West preached his first sermon as pas tor of the church Sunday morning and a large congregation attended At night the Baptist and Presby terian congregations attended the service at that church. The new iwistor comes here from the Morganton district of which lie has been the presiding elder. He made a fine impression on those who heard him Sunday and it is believed that under his direction, the Methodist church here is to continue to proser. First National Bank Buys Panama Bonis. ( hi the 30th of November, the vecretarv of the treasury sold to the highest bidders, twentv-five million dollars worth of the United States bonds for the Panama canal. The bids were sent sealed to the treasurer and it is of inter est to note that the First National lank of this place was successful in securing $-21,000 worth of these bonds and at a less price than was jaid by most Imnks and purchas ers of the bonds. The bonds sold as high as $100 and the average price iaid for them was $103, while the First National Bank here bought theirs for $102. Anson County Teacher's Association Following a call of the Sujer- intemlent Wall, the teachers of the county organized what is to lie known as the "Anson County Teachers Association," Saturday at the graded school building here. The. total enroll ment of the Association is now twenty three and it is exceted that others will join at the next meeting which is to be held here on the second Saturday in Janu ary, VJ0S. The regular time for the meeting will be on the first Saturda3' of each month after the next meeting. Prof. J. H. Mclvcr, principal of the Wadesljoro graded school, was elected president; Miss Lilly Kccc Doyle was elected secretary; Miss LiHie Wall was elected as re porter fo. the meetings; The president, i!'C teachers of the graded school. Prof. Crawford of Slorven and Maj. J. M. Wall, constitute the program commit tee. After some discussion, it was decided to elect a vice-presi dent from each township in the county ami the following teachers were elected vice-presdents: Prof. T. M. Baucome of Burnsville township. Mrs. II. A. Kleupperburg of Charlotte visited Mrs. W. C. Via Saturday. Mr. Henry Gulledge left yester day on his winter tour for the Hargrave & Leak Manufacturing Co. Mr. James i oung of Rocking ham spent yesterday here on busi ness. Mr. J. B. Waddell of Charlotte is spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Wad dell of Ansonville. Mr. F. B. McAlister of Rock- ham is here today on business. Mr. J. G. Boy I in spent yester day in Raleigh attending a meet ing of the directors of the Blind Institute. Mr. John Sikes has returned from Charlotte where he spent several months. More About Wadesboro's Furniture . Factory. Mr. Vincent Staple ton arrived here from Greensboro last week and was immediately elected sup erintendent of the furniture com pany recently organized here. He had been for sometime in charge of a factory in Greensboro and in all has had 26 years experience in the making of chairs and furniture i II t 1 a. .a or an Kinas. At present, he is getting up plans for the factory to oe ouiit here and, in the near future, will begin the work of se lecting the machinery to be used and attend to the other little de tails incident to the starting of the enterprise. Mr. Stapleton is a very affable young man and is a native of Can ada. He expects to build a resi dence for himself on the lands of the company and near the factory site, after which he will move his family here. At present he is stopping at the National hotel. W adesboro will gladly welcome him and his family. Public School Property Sold. The public school house and lot 11 . m si - was sold by the graded school trustees last Monday at public auction.
