It was , a covered well. He had gotten his head about two feet down into the well when he called lor help and ■ threw np his hand. Mr. Fountain I grabbed his hand but could not , keep him (Mr. Kittrell) from fall ing into the well. Mr. Kittrell was . gotten ont Ytry soon but was dead when he looked Mr. Fountain's hand —killed by the foal gas in the well. Mr. Fountain also felt very sensibly the effect of gass while over the well. The well is twenty feet deep and a light would go ont when only a few feet from the top.
