There* are two meetings daily. 3:30 in the af • ternoon, and 8:15 in the evening, and this will be the older until I next Sunday night, when it is pro posed that the services will close, r JMr. Wurman is an earnest speaker, and it is gratifying to note that ( there is being some interest mani fested. His sermons, beautifully illustrated em the blackboard, are wellVorth going to hear. A movement is on foot here to re-organize the lodge of Odd Fel lows, which disbanded several years ago. About thirty have signed the application for a charter. Hon. Win. Harvey Tweedy de parted this life on the 20th day of June at 2 a. tn., after a long and continued illness. Mr. Tweedy was born m Tyrell county, near Columbia on St. Patrick's day, March 17th, 1841 and lived there until his twentieth year he came here. ]£r. Tweedy was a musician by practice, and, when the Civil War broke out in 1861, joined the army and was a member of a North Carolina regiment. He was ia the battles of Petersburg and Richmond, Va., and was captured and carried to Point Look Out, where he was kept as a prisoner for a long Mr. Tweedy leaves a wife and me child to moum ( the loss of a dear one. Twice, in 1773 and 1774, Baron Stiegel demanded the rose and the custom then ftll into disuse, and was r.ot revived until eleven years j ago. To-day the rose was demand ed by Mrs. Ida Boyir, of Norris-1 town, Pa., a lineal descendant of the barou, and paid by Rev. J Mrs. Thomas Chapman, living near Pelham, in a fit of denwge pceut Thursday, took a razor and, J in the presence of her.husband and family, cut her throat from car to car nearly severing the wind pipe. •She died Monday from the effects of the cut. The first wreck width has hap pened in the Southern Pines' sec tion in many years occured at Nia gara station, three miles north of Southern Pines, Tuesday morning at ten o'clock. A "flying engine" fioing youth from Vass, without orders, ran into the local freight, No. 6, going nortli from Southern Pines. The result: Engineers Wall and Stewart, and firemen Bonds and Brewer, all white, were killed. A Chapel Hill special to the News and Observer: Long, a negro mail carrier from this place to Pitt)-boro, is now lin ' gering at death's door as a result of a deadly combat between him and his son, Hollis, in which the son seized a hatchet and deliberate ly struck the father on the top of the head, literally crushing the skull. At this hour Long is still living but the physicians have abandoned every hope of recovery. Reports concerning the cause of trouble between the father and son are meagre.
