Notwitbstsnding the Cad (hat the grand was covered with aoow a fall house couvcned to show their appreciation for the work done by the promoters and actors of this play. Wa are sure that all who were present will heartily agree with the writer in the statement that the play wss in every sense of the word s success. The mixture of the ser ious and the comic which is to be found in thia play is well sfctected for an evening of amuaement for any audience. Space will not permit ua to give to each character the worthy com ment which they deserve. If we should make special mention of any one, would refer to Mis. John D. Biggs, aa Miss Malinda Jane Boggs, from Jnniperville, Vt. Mrs. Biggs rendition of this character was quite original, and was an ideal representation of a green old maid from the country, who always sppesrs on the scene st the right time to make a mess of matter. We would also mention Miss Dell* Lanier, "Polly Flinders," the negro servant girl who did her part to perfection, and was the ideal negro gal. Brier butce Jack Donning marries a girl for her money. At first he is all devo tion. but aa time wears on love grad ually fades away and he drifts to the race tracks for gamble squand ering his wife's money. At laat Ashley Drayton, a cheif of gamb ler persuades Dunning to let him put up his last $40,000 on a cer tain bourne. A few hoars later Don ning receives the follwing telegram "Rose loot, but money Is safe" Dunning read only first clause and attempted suicide bat wss preven ted. He next finds Percy Ogden. his tried friend, consoling his wife, sccuses them of making love and dsshes from the hones In a rage. Asbl'y Drayton tries to confess his wrong and return thcsaoncy to the bereaved wife, bat Percy Ogden. ber comforter and a despiser of Drayton, will not allow him to speak time passea, Dunning goes off and aedodce himself. The Edenton Convocation ot the Episcopal church was held in the church of that denomination here duriug the last of January. Owing ao the extremely cold weather the attendance was small.
