THE ENTERPRISE. FRIUAT. MAT 12, 1905. LOCAL NEWS —Sheriff Hardison had a slight stroke of paralysis Wednesday but is much improved at this writing We hope he will soon be able to get out again. — THK ENTERPRISK regrets to have to give its leaders an excuse for its inability to publish a full account of the life ot Mr. Jno. M. Sherrod, who died in Hamilton last Thursday night The death was not known in time to enable us to give a complete sketch of this good man. v Furniture Store. Mr. J. Paul Simpson left Sunday morning for High Point where he goes to buy goods for his furniture store to be opened tlft first of June. The furniture store will be be tween THB ENTBRPRISK office and the store of J. A. Mizell & Co. Mr. Simpson says it is his inten tion to open a modern store, keep ing a complete variety in price aud quality. Mr. Simpsom is a pro gressive business man, having made a success of the hardware business he moves forward. There is no better indication of the progress of the town than the kind of stores it has, the places in which goods are sold, the kind of goods sold and the men who sell them. Mr. Simpson understands this and is using to advantage his experience and knowledge. Reckless Bicycle Ridln*. It is not our intention to com plain with the town officers because it is impossible to be everywhere at one time and see everything but we should like to call their atten tion to bicycle riders on the side walks. We saw a muscular man weighing no less than two hundred pounds, ride down the sidewalk at the rate of twenty miles an hour and pass a small child, who man aged to get enough to the side to be saved from eternity and that is all. We think bicycles should be kept off the sidewalks and their speed regulated. If allowed on the sidewalks the privilege is abus ed. The commissioners should not wait until some child is crip pled or killed to make the change. The Poor Pickerts. This company was here last week filling a three nights' engagement at the opera house. They came highly recommended and well did they sustain their reputation as _ not only one of the leading travel ing troupes but a company com posed of ladies and gentlemen of refinement. On Friday night in response to numerous requests they rendered the great sensational drama, "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." The whole company did splendid, but we desire to make special men tion of Mr. Clifford I. Venie as l)r. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. So well did he lender the two characters that lie was the recipient of many congratulatory comments. Also Mr. loliu S. Fender as Charles Alexander Poppinjay, Esq., F. Q. This was the comedy character and Mr. Fender in his local hits always brought forth applause. The four Pickerts in specialties between acts were fine, but little Blanche Pickert is the queen of the company and captured the entire town. The Company is a strong one and will receive a warm welcome and a good house any time they wish to visit Willianistou again A Wonderful Saving. The largest Methodist Church in Georgia, used 32 gallons of L.&M mixed with 24 gallons of oil .mak ing paint cost about $1.20 per gal lon. Thev calculated*to use too gal loan of other paint. Saved about SBOOO and also got a big donation of L. St If. Dealers gladly sell L• & M., because their customers call for it, and say they used it 12, 14, and even 30 years ago. Dont pay $1.50 a gallon for lin seed oil which you do in readv-for use paint. Buy oil fresh from the barrel at 60 cents per gallon, and mix it with 1.. & M. Paint. It makes paint coat about fi.2o per gallon. Sold by S. R. Biggs. Our farmers say that Theodote Price is being convinced that he is following a cold trail in his efforts to hold the Southern people guiltv of a conspiracy in holding their cot ton for better prices. The xr.ajority of the farmers in this section have sold, but there are a few bales left yet unsold. Our citizens are most hilarious over the success that our neighbor* ing towns Kobersonville and Will iamston, have made of their graded schools. Their schools seem to be the pride of the community and why can't we take some steps and have our treasury to justify graded schools also? Our town is moving foward very fast now, aiul the coming of I)r. Fleming, of Greenvile. will be a great help to the place. Mr. J. T. Savage is having tint ber sawed to erect a drug store and dwelling on railroad street, which will also add to the looks of the place. The town election held here last Tuesday was the most hotly con tested election ever held here. There were eighteen votes cast and four registered voters who did not vote. Mr. F. M. Harrell was elected Mayor without a dissenting vote. Commissioners as following H. K. Harrell, M. Whitlv and S. W. Casper. It was a hard fought battle and both sides were gnessing from the time the vot'ng began Tuesday morning until the votes were counted at sunset Tuesday evening. By persistent and inde fatigable work on the part of our most successful and prominent bus iness men, the prohibition victory was won and our ptoble are very proud of the success.
