Passenger Train Wrecked
Atlantic Coast Line passenger
train No. 58, with Capt. G. D.
Hawks conductor running between
Rinston and Weldon, "was wrecked
Wedueaday morning. The train
was running about 25 miles an
hour and had just passed Can
aday's siding, about 5 miles south
of Gifton, when spreading rails in
a alight curve caused the baggage
coach to jump the track, tbe two
passenger coaches following. The
engine broke loose and did not
leave the track.
There were about 25 passengers
on the train at the time, and while
all were badly frightened and
shaken up, only three were injured.!
These were G. W. Barker, a trav
eling salesman from Philadelphia,
C. H Hoffs, address unknown,
and the colored mail cietk, Parrot.
Their injuries were only slight.
The passengers were taken on
engine and tender and moved to
Grifton, from which place they
were brought in a box car to Green
ville. The Washington train was
sent here from Parmele to take the
through passengers and mail on up
the road, and a wrecking train was
sent down to clear and repair the
track.—Greenville Reflector.
