VOL. X. NO. 4 GODWIN-NEWELL * Beautiful Early Morning Wedding. (Reported) At the home of Mr. J. Atwood Newell, sister of the bride, sang as a solo "O Promise Me" to the organ accompainment rendered by Miss Carry Biggs. As the rythmical chords of Mendel sohn's wedding march, perfectly rendered bv Miss Bi*gs, gently filled the atmospheie the ribbon bearer?, James Edwiu Harrell .and Miss Fannie Biggs Martin marched in and took their posi tions on opposite sides of the arch, forming an aisle down which marched Miss Ella Staton, gownt d in old rose taffeta and lace, bearing a handsome boquet of white car nations and maiden hair fermJ, then came the grootn leaning 011 the arm of Dr. James S. Rhodes and was met at the altar by the bride, gowned in white broad cloth with hat, gloves and shoes to match, carrying a creaiion of brides roses and maiden hair ferns, leaning on the arm of her brother, Mr. T. Paul Simpson, who gave her away. The ceremony was sol emly and beautifully performed, making one of the prettiest mar riages ever witnessed in William ittfa. v ' v After the ceremony and hearty congratulations the bride and grootn hurriedly changed their costumes for traveling suits and drove to the depot where they took the early morning train for an extended Northern tour by Niagara Kalis into Canada and returning to New York via the Hudson River, They will be gone several weeks, after which they will be at home in Williamston. The out of town guests were: Mrs. Marion Cobb of Mildred, Miss Frances Gentry of Washington and J. Dillon Simpson of Suffolk, Va. Martin County Teachers' Asso ciation. The annual visitation of Bishop Strange to the parish here was of j unusual interest this year on ac count of the ordination of Rev. W. J. Gordou to the priesthood. On Thursday night the Bth inst., even ing prayer was said and Rev. B. R. Huske of Greenville, preached a very strong sermon. He is a young man having been ordained in June, but is doing a good work in all his parishes in Pitt Couuty. Friday morning services began at 10:30 with morning prayer. At 11:45 the service for the ordaning of priests began by the singing of Onward Christian Soldiers. " Then followed the sermon by Rev. Mr.Hubardof Clemson, S. C. His theme was selected from the texts "I am the Light of the world," ' 'Yt are the light of the world" and "As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you." Mr. Gordon was presented for ordination by Rev. Nat Harding of Washington. The Holy Com munion was administered to a large number by Bishop Strange assisted by Rev. Mr. Gordon. These ser vices were the most impressive ever .seen in Williamston, and every one present must have caught the spirit embodied therein and felt that it was good to be there. One found in then a truer significance of the church and its purposes. If you are a sufferer front piles, ManZan Pile Remedy will bring relief with the first application. Guaranteed. Price 50c. (Reported) A handful of pie-eaters met in the office of Boss Wheeler Martin Thursday and completed the nom ination for the republican ticket by naming J. R. Roberson as their nominee for sheriff. At the regu lar convention the nomination for sheriff was left open to give boss Martin time to negotiate with Rob erson and complete the converting of him to the republican ranks, and after the "pisin" had been suffici ently imbibed the few pie-eaters were called together and the plan perfected. Fellow democrats, are you going to be beffled in that way? Are you going to support a man whose only interest in your party is to seek office? J. R. Roberson an nounced himself as a canidate for 1 the office of sheriff of Martin Co., subject to the action of the demo cratic convention, in which he re ceived no mean support, getting 26 out of 58 votes. And now he is the full-pledged nominee of the republican party. Again, this man who conies out i and asked for the nomination to I this high office at the hands of the democrats of Martin County was j heard to say prior to the time of I bis announcement, that if the State I went dry he would vote the repub lican ticket, reserving the right to vote for any county candidate he saw fit. Keith is one the attractions which makes Williainston a pleasant place for the traveler. It has never given more splendid service, than that of last Friday when a luncheon was served to the members of the Koiscopal Church and their guests, who were attending the ordination services. At 2:30 p. m. the doors of the large dining hall were open ed, and the guests sat down to a table beautifully decorated with flowers, snowy linen and polished silver stretching down and across the hall. The menu consisted of "Martin County ham," turkey, chicken salad, celery, pickles, breads, coffee, cream and cake- The The total number of guests enter tained was fifty nine. Before leaving the dining hall, Bishop Strange spoke of the early life of Rev. W. J. Gordon and of his acceptance of the call to the ministry of the church, dwelling on 1 the beautiful significance of the ! services which had brought the i people together.
