Jordan went i Betterment Association The regular meeting of the Wo man's Betterment Association was held Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock iu the Graded School build ing. The session was a most en thusiastic one and a committee was selected to arrange for the purchase of seats for the auditorium. The members feel that they are engag ed in that should bring in touch all the mothers of the school district, aud to enroll their names on the list of workers. It is a noble work and will show that there is a lively interest in the life of each pupil that matriculates now and in the future The members of the Association desire the co-operation of every person in the town. Work-like theirs is helping stimulate a love for the clean and beautiful through out the land. Already the work here has progressed to an appreci able degree, aud the thoughtful ones can see a vast good done. C. L. depot, Mrs Hardison, who was waiting for the "Saoofly," walked upon the track and being deaf failed to hear the cars coming behind her, Chief of Police White noticing the woman's danger, rushed to her rescue. He barely escaped the foremost car, but be brought the woman to safety. Mr. White's presence no doubt saved the life of Mrs. Hardison, and be deserves much praise for his quick thought and action. Sold by In Memoriara ■ Thomas Johnson, eldest sou of Archibald and Fannie Johnson, died December Bth 1909, after three weeks of patient suffetinj? with typhoid fever, aged twenty one years. He was a dutiful son and a lov ing brother. A father, a mother, four sisters and four brothers are left to mourn his untimely end, but their loss is his eternal gain. None knew him but to love him. She had passed the allotted space of life tieiog seventy-nine yeais old. For some years she had lived with her daugh ter, Mrs. Perry, where she died on Thursday night, Decem ber 9th. In early life she married John E. Wafd, who died several years sgo at bis home ne.*»r James- I ville. Mrs. Ward was a native of Beaufort County, being the aunt of Mrs. C. W. Keith and Messrs. F. K. and W. J. Hodge*, of Willi amston. Two sons, J. W., and J. H. Ward and daughters, Mis Kmmett Edwards and Mrs. W. M Perry, survive her. The Woman's Betterment Asso cia'ion under the leadership of MTS. W. H. HaVrell gave the public a ' delightful evening on the 10th. instant at the Masouic Opera House. A large cfrowd grce'ed the beginning of the programme which was attractive throughout. Other attractive features were the recitation ot Mrs. John I*. BIRKS, who never fails to delight a Williamston audience, and the sing ing of little Miss Cortane Smith, dressed as a cowboy, and Ollie Meadows, Htlda Cravford., Frances Knight and Irma Wood house representing Indian maidens. Music was furnished throughout the evening by Mrs. Sidney Mobley and Mi-s Martha Taylor. After the programme was finish* ed, refreshment* were served by a number of youug girls, and soon everything prepared had been sold to an appreciative audence. The evening was a success from every viewpoint, and the managers were gratified at tne patronage of the public. Forty four was the sum received, which will add much to that already in hand to be us d in seating the auditorium at the Gradad School building. The greatest danger from influ enza is of its resulting in pneumo nia.
