A Letter Dear Mr. Manning: 1 herewith «cnd two dollars money order, for my Arkansas friend ar.d tuvseif anc-ther yeai. Remeuil)er that Mr (i. B. .. Djnii'ls P. 0., ii Haynes, Lee Co , Ark. I feel that this is a paper wo-thv of the patronage of every citizen of our countv. Then why not n-' our means and influence to sustain and promote it? I would like tot see the items of Kobersonvtlle ap-' ' pear again 111 our county paper with j not only of comers and £oers, hut | of facts to show the growth and | progress of our town so that othcts I may know what we are doing.' Why I' ve heard some say who have been away a few years, that they would hardly know the placr Then you may know that we an / not unwilling to make known the doings and growth of the town. j Success to Tm: Entkkpkisk. S. W. Outterbridp,e. j Kobentonvillji, .N. C . Dec. 28th' T912. (Tlie above letter from the Grand Old Man of Martin County is much appreciated, and he always has a word of cheer for us, which help, to lighten our work in striving to give a paper worthy of the people among whom it circulates We, desire to publish the growth and uplift of every section ->! our conn-, ty, but so ofte cannot get c ures- ' pot! dents who will giv e news. — | Kditor.) Christmas Here Extremely bad weather preceded j Christmas Day, and hindered shop pers greatly in their late purchases People had not waited, however, for the day before to do shopping, but had been purchasing systemati cally for weeks before. The trade ' was good, some selling m?re than ever before. Trains were late bt-j cause they carried so much express | for the holidays. Despite piedic tions and the weather previous, Christmas Day opened bright and ! cool. There were services in the' Episcopal Church appropriate to I the day, and the spirit of theseasOu j was apparent on every hand. Gifts ■ and good wishes were exchanged, and everybody was filled with cheerfulness. The absence of drunkeness on the streets was very noticeable, and some say that for quietness and soberness, the. day stands ?t the head of the list here. A few peo ple went hunting, but the number was less than usual. So the Day of Days in 191 a passed with glad ness on its wings, and the New Year followed, and its coming will, no doubt, bring many changes in th: lives of the people and they taav be beneficial ones.
