Mr. Jos. Jones had just in the barn, and the fire had been drawn jtn hour when seen bursting from the roof. It seems incredible that Jfire should have started when the barn had cooled off. Vernon Godwin is visiting his parents here. Miss Mamie Robertson, of Rob ersonville, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Theodore Robertson, on Simmons Avenue. Mrs. G. M. Roberson and chil dren with their cousin, Miss Lucy Blount, were here from Rober sonville Thursday. Mrs. Herbert Cowen and little son with Mrs. J. R. Mobley went to Tarboro Thursday to visit friends. Miss Hilda Crawford has re turned from Roper where she visited relatives. Roger Critcher and Henry Gur ganuslhave been in Norfolk this week. Miss Fannie Murt Manning, accompnined by Miss Ruth Ro berts, returned from a visit to Norfolk Tuesday. Misses Annie Fagan and Lettie Critcher are at home after several weeks at the beach. Fabius L. Fowden went to Durham Thursday to visit his daughter, Mrs. C. B. Clark. Mrs. C. W. Kellinger is at home after a visit to Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Pope, in Robersonville. Captain W. R. Fowden who is manager of the commissionary at Astoria Mills, is at home for sev eral weeks. The mill has closed for two months, and onty a small force is at work. J. M. Brown, of Belfast, Ga., brother of our townsman, P. H. Mrs. Jesse Jenkins, of Tarboro, spent the week-end here. Linwood James, of Shady Grove, is working here in the W. U. T. office. Severely Burned ) Monday night, Samuel Gard ner, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gardner, was assisting in vulcanizing a tube at the garage of S. R. Biggs, when the gasoline exploded in his face and burned him very painfully, causing the skin to peel off. There was no injuries to his eyes, however. Medical attention was given by Dr. J. H. Saunders, and though the pain was very severe, there will be no permanent injury to the boy's face. Keep your children away from animals of all kinds.
