A BlAfi iNTIVim ADMBtIUMIMTB VOB BUYING ADvAMTASB PLANTING GOOD SEED PAY AGAIN —• FARMER NEAR TARBORO IS KLA' , TED OVER THE RESULTS V OBTAINED TARBORO, April 2.—Nenr Conetoe la thi county Ines 11. G. Brown and Frank L tanner neighbor* j with lands adjoining. Both of them were for years content to plant such cotton mm *n fim secured in the eral run their farms or from the local ginners. Bat about live yean ago, Mr. Brown became inter ested in the idea of using better seeo and in producing better seed on hi* own place. He finally joined the combe Seed Breeders association and worked in dose cooperation with the county agent, Zeno Moore and Dr R. Y. Winters of the experiment sta tion staff. Mr. Moore states that neighbor Ca» tex still stuck to" the "same old seed" •ntil in 1921 when be saw swrh fine Eton in the fields arnn» the way t he was convinced good seed woul pay. Last year, ho purchased soni seed from neighbor Brown and plant ed fifty acres to the improved va riety. His tenants planted 92 acre: from Lbs same old seed formerly n-e --on the place. The land was about tltr same and fertilized the same; but _to make n long story short, the ter> ants got 46 bales from their fO ue res and only six of these graded a good aa middling- From his s«i at res, Mr. Castex secured 52 b>le«, on!" four of which graded as low as mid dling. Mr. Moore thinks this is a gom example of the value of using better seed. Moat of the improved seed no* being used in Edgecombe county come from testing work placed severs' years ago by Agent Moore cooperat ing with Dr. R. Y. Winter*, plan* breeder for the North Carolina ex periment station. The work has beer carried forward by the EdgecomU Seed Breeders association anil tl« county becoming well known for th quality of its cotton sted. PINEY GROVE LOCAL ITEMS Messr.
