THE ENTERPRISE I'uUiched every TmAj aai Friday by the KM EI!PRISE PUBLISHING CO.' Williaraston, North Ciwliw W. C MANNING, Editor Subscription Piie* (Strictly Cash in Advance) 1 year tl-Wj 6 months -®0 i months ~~Liucred at the Post Office at Wil iamston, North Carolina as second las., matter, under the act of March :;7S». rtddress all communication*' to The, ■intorprise, Williamston, N. C. TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3#. I««. Tomorrow marks the ending of 'Se j iil year and while it seems younr t Ic u:. when we measure our tasks rom j p'eied and thps-? though the tasks completed b> u.» u I few and those uncompleted b»- many, j we feel it our dAty and it is our df j sire to thank every one at our mi-: 'rs for his support during this | year and to wish all a most prosper- ! eus and happv New Year. | Nineteen hundred twenty-four g-*-- J off the calendar to-morrow As we recount the days it ha - I brought us anil the opport urn!w it has (riven us. perhaps ther- is -onw uncertainty whether wf are -atL-fie-! •r not If we hnve had more than we anticipated, it would psrhap be good for us to examine some ( J the reasons for them We have (u.i more opportunities for pleasure th.«r ever before in all history. We ar having better roads to travel on. M -«r schools to attend, better hemes to I've in. better clothes to wear and be» , ter food to eat than ever before Then; why aren't we happy? Is i» i-ecause some body is running so fats" it is hard to keep up, and we have no time to enjoy the blessings an • opportunities showered upon u_-? It ! >oks now as if people think if they I , .ist had money, they would naee J. a opines.-, too. The fact is that a very large p»rt of us are unhappy because we have not as much money as we want Some of u. seem to think all good thing could tie aiTded. Regardless of what the past liu brought, we must face the future The only capital we can »cet out of the past is the experience it ha given us. V. e know we will have sunshine an-) rain in it*2s. The seasons will ('>w ;-n! go. The roses will bloom The briars will grow. AH of God's es tablished nature and order of things will prevail. If we adapt ourselves to sucn laws and diligently strive to ap ply th«m to our needs, we will suc ceed. It may be that we have made up our i minds that this is an exclusive machine age end that everything must be done by a machine, leaving nochinp for our hands to do Whatever the cause for our somewhat dissatisfied state of mind, we must not trad? our smiles for frowns. WHY A JOKE? The New Year's Resolution if in its bolom right now. One >w~n oft a bad habit of one kind, another one casts aside some other bad habit. Ami juat as the world swears off aa-i trie* to do better, it is considered as a huge joke. One makes a firm reso lution to do better while others look with wolf like eyes to «irf. him breaking it so they can teas* him It in no joke when a man swears t.T ft poisonous liquors, etc, and to |i*t home and children more attention. It ' is a step that should be planted bv aIL But, right here in our little town, there are hypocrites, rascals and low "c.wn scoundrels who will strain sev eral points to tear down a resolution. Such cowardly acts are ignored here, but, surely they have weight in the hereafter, and probably it would not b» going to far to say that the inr.e con» of Milton's Hell will be occupied by them.
