On Tuesday, September Ist, twenty-five Tobacco Growers Cooperative Association warehouses will be opened to receive, for orderly marketing, Eastern North jGa^o lina's quota of a 200 million pound delivery goal fixed for the 1925 season. In the South Carolina belt, where Association warehouses have been open less than a month, the delivery has been gratifying to every loyal member of the Associ ation in the three states. The sixty-five per cent cash advance to members in the South Carolina belt has compared so favorably with the auction floor average that as a result of an almost unanimous appeal Association officials were persuaded to reopen the books and give to non-members an opportunity to profit by delivery of their 1925 crop to the Associ ation. 4 "They have been through burning fires of arbitrary pricefixing," Governor Mc- Leod, South Carolina's Governor told five thousand North Carolina? Farmers in Cleveland County last week, "and Cooperative Marketing has proven their Salvation." The prosperity of Eastern North Carolina towns is dependent upon the prosperity of Eastern North Carolina farms. The progress of these towns is inseparably linked with the profit of the farms. If the bankers and merchants of Eastern Carolina extend a cooperative hand to the farmer, the healthy progress for which every town strives will come. Straining suspenders in an effort to build smokestacks is of no consequence unless the town has the good will and whole-hearted support of the farmers in its trade territory. South Carolina Tobacco Growers are pointing the way to Farm Prosperity and Community Progress. * ~ ' - ; ' • , . V, __ . ......... .. • • ' . .
