THE ENTERPRISE Published Every Tuesday andyt-Yiday by the ENTERPRISE PUBLISHING COMPANY Williamston, North Carolina W. C. Manning :.......... ;: Editor Subscription Price (Strictly casli in advance) _ 1 year . 6 months 3 months - ~ - Entered at the post oflice at Williamston, N. C.. as second-class matter under the act of March 3. 1879. . Address ali communications to The Enterprise WHY PROHIBITION DOESN'T PROHIBIT 1 Is the liquor lav, harder to enforce j than any other law? If it is really a fact that it is harder to enforce than other lav s, then What is the reason ? But for one reason the prohibition A law would be the easiest of all laws to enforce. That reason is liquor too many fancy and influential friends Con ing down to the real honest rea son, everyone knows the "best people' can not prosecute tue moonshiner and bootlegger who keeps them full of li quor. Nobody especially blames a loW down fellow who sells liquor for cash to tle elite. The whole thing hinges on one point: The so-called "best peo ple" must be better people.- -W-UneU Sam could say to every oflicer of all kinds in the United States, "Be honest, and decent"; to e\ery cfl"urc!i mem-, ber, "Honestly help to enforce the lawj that promotes good morals mid pro j tects society"; and to every nan whp. drinks, ,'change your waji, 1 ' then the! prohibition law would be enforced. Liquor has too many friends is the ( tiouble, and the folks who are the friends of liquor stand too hiirh in gov ernment, church, ami society. You can not find any friends for tl>» crimes of murder, rape, robbery, and arson. The effort now prevailing to so modify the national prohibition law so that beer and light wines may be. man ufactured and sold is one of danger and would strike a destructive blow to one of the best movements ever undertaken by the American people. „ It would be unfair to enact il law allowing foreigners, -mostly Germany and Jews, to manufacture beer an wines. It would be better to aboH; 1 the Entire law, allowing the American people to have their red liquor and Apple brandy to let foret'ji:"! i have their beer. The churches of this country eou! t not do a more cowardly th'ng than - tn lie'down on the job of uaforceiueiit When a law is- v'.oluted the public must suppress the crime and prose the violator, If the public com mit* the crime and' shield the violator, then it makes the law hard to en force.
