Mr. N. G. liartlett, a hard-working, good-na tured, smiling fellow, is secretary and « manager, and has succeeded in enlist ing 46 counties, all in the eastern end of the State, into this valuable or gan zation. Mr. Bartlett has his head, quarters at Kinston. Tiie campaign!)? publicity has reach , i-d across the continent and millions' I are turning their eyes to the land "where life is worth living." J Tie activities of the organization) have taught the people of eastern Car-1 olina one very important lesson which I they have overlooked for two centur-! ies. It has been the habit of our peo- 1 pie to look at the advantages of oth ers and not our own; as good, and many times better, than theirs. The work of the Eastern Carolina Chamber of Commerce is trying to —show us our own opportunities, so that we will stop bewailing, howling, and whining about our own poor con ilition and go to work to develop our own fine section of this great coun- 1 try. ' The Martin County page, also the Williamston write up, brings to ourl attention many opportunities that w« have failed to see. t c t *"* THE MITCHELL TRIAL b The Mitchell court-martial is ap- 1 4] parently bringing to the surface some of the tricks of the Army. c In selecting the officers to consti- c t tute the court of inquiry it appears ( that three members of the court were disqualified upon prejudicial grounds. 1 It woukl seem rather strange in con- j { ducting a court of inquiry tiiat men i 1 who were biased should be selected to 1 I (i give an impartial hearing and yet' this happened in the case 'of Colonel ] I William Mitchell. Colonel Mitchell may have acted hastily inTES cntiicStunl, yet there are " few who doubt the truth of his state e ments. And when three of the court i are found incompetent on account of prejudices, it naturally makes the pub- j { lie think that there is more faults in I f II the Army—and Navy, too —than even | THE E VENT OF THE SEASON ROANOKE FAIR ~ FREE ACTS - MILE OF MIDWAY AND SHOWS* EXHffiITSTHATCAN NOT BE EXCELLED4N TOE STATE.
