' , Address all communications to The Enterprise WHAT WILL THE FARMERS DOT Farmers, what will you do ? The world says you have too much cotton, too much tobacco, too many peanuts. The world has cruelly crushed you with your own thrift. \ou have been diligent—you have done too much. Your labor has forced you to mort gage your home. Will you work too much this year ? \\ ill you pile up another fifteen mil lion bale crop in 1926 and force the prices even lower than now? -r- Will the farmer again fill the coun try full of tobacco und force prices down? ft • 'jf? Will he plant the earth in peanuts and dump them for two-thirds of what they cost ? It is folly for the farmer to do more held work. He has made himself poor uiready by working too hard and pro ducing too much. The farmer sorely needs to know more about his market, in which alone his prosperity lies. The coffee farmer of brazil and the East Indies can't raise enough cof fee to break the market, simply be cause he knows how to sell. The rubber growers can't produce enough rubber to break the market lie sells his customer his needs at the price he names, not the customer's price. The American farmer is the only man on earth that 'fights his neighboi WANTS LOST: A LARGE BLACK DOC with 4 white feet, white face an breast, and white ring around neck Named Jack. It seems impossible to get them together, and If they happen h to get together they are the quickest y people of all to break their agreement.- The sad thing, from the farmers u position, is why work when he has 11 piled up such a surplus that the world '• can't use it? Why buy fertilizer to * make more crops to make lower prices ? The merchant comes along and says " "1 will feed you if you and all the * family will work hard." The guano man says "Fertilize highly and pro ' duce big crops." And when the big 8 crops are produced the price is too low to pay the cost of production, and b the farmer has to make two more t ' * mortgages, one to the merchant, the other to the fertiliser man, to pay B for the folly of his hard work.
