And would it hurt to briar the limit nearer home? Imagine the bitter disappointment experienced by Will Rogers, when he was looking" over all the exhibits in the East Carolina Exposition, and failed to see one leaf of tobacco ex hibited. He should remember that the advertising is carried on by his com pany telling all about how Bull Dur ham is made, who smokes it, and so on; and that the product in state is little known except By the farmer. It strikes us that the job is not quite complete when the schoolhouses close their doors this early in the spring. The finishing touch, if you will think of it as such, has not been applied, and it would seem that «imA«ie is being cheated. And the whole affair appears more tragic when we see what , * schools are closing and others remain ing open. It seems unfair, and the situation can be altered only at the polls. MARTIN PASSES UP GOOD AD VERTISING OPPORTUNITY "Martin County is not here," was the answer to the question of where is Martin County with her display. Naturally, the many Martin County visitors to the East Carolina Expo sition at Greenville this week felt that they had neglected themselves whe/ they looked around and saw such head lines as "Made in Washington Coun ty," and saw dozens of farm product.--, many manufactured articles, such as handles, boxes, in fact dozens of such' things made by our little sister. Then we shifted and looking west saw Edge combe, where they were showing won ders in progress. Perhaps the Lenoir County exhibits climaxe in progress. There were shown not only the wide variety of farm products common to Eastern North Carolina, but dozens of things manufactured, among them parlor fur niture, heavy foundry products for use in milling, farming, etc. Wood prod ucts, mantels, doors, blinds; in fact, I- i' 11 ... AWNINGS % It pays to buy from us. We put them up Harrison Brothers & Co. WILLIAMSTON, N. C. e the biggest part of the house and the 0 things within. Then there was the field and farm machinery. After look " ing it all over, there was only one t tiling to say. "A good county." e Of course, the re are other good n counties beside Washington, Edge -1 combe, aiid Lenoir, and there are oth er good and progressive people than e- those to be found in those counties, - but lots of them are just too busy - looking and listening to do anything > or say anything. Some people seem 1 to enjoy exhibiting themselves —most e of themselves—but they do not seem to be interested in their handiwork. It was a slam when Will Rogers > said he was sorry for any section that 2 did not have anything i>n exhibit ex . cept paint signs. c TOBACCO TRUST AGAIN FAILS TO BREAK ASSOCIATION The Tobacco Trust again fell uown ■ when Judge Met kins refused to ap ' point a receiver for the Tobacco ! Growers Cooperative Association. ! There have been many heavy cam paigns waged against the associa tion, always by disgruntled members ' who stand very close to the big com panies. y In every court proceeding yet held i the cloven foot baf shown so pluin i that the court has .seen it without any trouble. ' It is proof that truth crushed to • earth will rise again, and while big money from the trusts has flushed the farmer and run him away from his friends, y.»t the provisions of hia gov ernment in givi.sg him courts of jus tice has presei ed his rights. And with the j rowing of knowledge among ' the masses, the people at large should take courage tt .it there is a day not so far in the distance in which labor will chjo> a grr iter proportion of its products. The opponents of the tobacco asso ciation huve had much to say against some of the leaders or managers who have drdawn good salaries and at the same time, and under cover, in a way, sold out to the enemy. Which is true.' t This has been one of the great trou bles in all ages—men will sell you out. Yet it does not affect the prin AJNT IT THE By a. a chapin • «rr» ftmiMi ta» -~am& VUL i«* vwtfM MOTMCR.
