Winston-Salem Still State's Largest City Washington, May 24.—Estimates of the population of 239 cities having a population of 30,00(1 or more inhabi tants were announced tpday by the De partment of commerce. The '"big four" the country's only cities having a pop ulation of a million or more, show no change in rank. New York leads with 5,924,000. Chicago is next with 3,- 048;000 and Philadelphia third with 2,- x 008,000. Detroit was fourth with 1,- 290,000. The following North Carolina fig ures have been announced: Charlotte, 64.600; Durham, 43,900; Greensboro, 48,700; Wilmington, 37.7't0; Winston- Salem, fI,BOO. . ■* . Florida Leads in Accidents Last Week Atlanta. May 24.—A decrease of 2 deaths and an increase of '63 persons injured in accidents during the past week as, compared with the preceding seven days was shown in a survey of traflic conditions in the eleven South ern State, conducted today by the As sociated Press, Totals gave 37 per sons killed and 278 injured last week end, 39 'killed and 225 injured the week 'previously. Florida replaced North Carolina at the head of killed and injured column, with 8 persons killed and 46 injured. The Tar Heel State tied her in the list of fatalities, but had only 8 injured. Mr. J. T. Sadler, auditor of the Car olina Telephone Co., was a business visitor at this office Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Daniel, and Mr. and Mrs. P. E.
