Carstarphen, jr., spent Sunday at Coleraine Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Manning and Johnnie Philpot spent Sunday at Coleraine Beach. Messrs. Joe Everett and Jesse Am bers left Sunday for Norfolk and Vir ginia Beach, where they will spend several days. Miss Edith Ramie, of Richmond, Y'a., is visiting Mrg. N. C. Green for several days. Misses Lyda Cook, Geneva Cook, Laura Norton, Messrs. Lyman Britt, Bob Hoggard, and James Griffin re turned yesterday from Coleraine Beach, where they have been camping for the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Anderson and daughter, Betsy Jean, of Tarboro, spent the week end here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ander son and Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Britt. Misses Margaret Staton and Kath erine Newell, of Scotland Neck, are visiting relatives at the Britt Hotel. Lyman Britt spent the week end at Coleraine Beach. Mr. W. T. Overby, of Jamesville, was in town Monday. Mr. Overby succeeds Mr. M. L. Tatum as teacher of agriculture in the Jamesville High School. He is a graduate of State College, class of 1926. Mr. Overby is a farmer boy from Margarettsville, Northampton County. He comes to our county well equipped and well recommended. Don Matthews, of Hamilton, was a busihess visitor here Monday. Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Brown, Mrs. L C. Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. J. W Watts, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Watts, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gurganus and children and many others visited Coleraine Beach Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Godard jr., J. G. Godard, and Mr and Mrs W. T. Hun ter spent Sunday at Silver Lake near { Wilson. They brought Joseph, who has been camping with the Scouts, back home with them. Mr. L. C. Bennett was operated on at the Washington Hospital this morn ing for the removal of his tonsils. He was accompanied to the hospital by Mrs. Bennett and Roy Gurganus. Judge Francis D. Winston, of Wind sor, passed through town early this morning, enroute to Raleigh, where he goes on legal business. Mr. Frank S. Hassell, of Raleigh, spent the week end visiting his father, Elder Sylvester Hassell. Mr. Hassell i 3 chief counsel for the Atlantic Joint Stock Land Bank of Raleigh, which is one of the leading farm-loan banks of the south. Governor A. W. Mc- Lean is one of the principal stock holders. Mr. Hassell has recently moved his family to Raleigh from Wilson, where he has lived for the past 20 years. Horace Cooley, of Wilson, was here for a few hours Wednesday. Mr. H. G. Harrington, of Lewiston, was a Wiliiamston visitor yesterday. I Mr. W. H. Russ, of Washington, was in town Wednesday. Mr. J. R. Collie, of the State de partment of revenue, of Raleigh, was a visitor here Wednesday. PHONE Anything for This Department To , 4 6 Miss Trentham Honored by Oak City Parent-Teacher Association Oak City, July 81.—(Special to The Enterprise.)— Thursday evening from 9 until 10 at the home of Mrs. J. C. Ross, the Parent-Teacher Association gave a very enjoyable informal recep tion in hoiior of Miss Anna Trentham, home demonstration agent located at Wiliiamston. The reception committee was com posed of Mrs. J. C. Ross, president of the association, and Mrs. Durward Smith, secretary. These were ably as sisted by Mrs. B. M. Worsley and Mrs. Joe Ayers. The spacious porch of the home where the crowd gathered was lovely with soft lighT and potted plants. Music for the evening was furnished by Miss Christine Piland at the piano. Old-time games, led by Mrs. J. S. Lakes, were enjoyed and took us back to childhood again. These being inter spersed with discussions and pleasant anticipations of the future work we are to do under Miss Trentham's di rection. Refreshing lemonade and wafers were served by Misses Emma Daniel, Eloise, and Mary Ruth Ross. Then Miss Trentham gave a very in teresting talk about the work she )ooks forward to doing among us. Some are anxious to learn to make lamp shades immediately, since Oak City now boasts of an efficient light ing system. Others want to know how to make pretty baskets, good rolls, winter gardens, etc. Among those in the community at tending were Mesdames J. A. Everett, Jesse Piland, Williams, Clark, Daniel, William Johnson, Nathan Hyman, Jesse Crisp, Ernest Harrell, Mr. and 'Mrs. Julian Mizell, Mesdames J. S.' Eakes, Joe Ayers, B. M. Worsley, Dur ■ward Smith, J. C. Ross, and Misses Margaret Everett, Bertha Piland, Christine Piland, Naomi and Gladys Bennett, Ruth Harrell, Emma Daniel, Eloise and Mary Ruth Ross and others. Mr. R.
