Mrs. Bettie Harrison and her two daughters, Mrs. Theo Ward and Mrs. Fannie Lewis, of Norfolk, returned to their home Monday after spending several days visiting Mr. and Mrs. K. J. Peel. Mrs. Harrison and fam ily are Martin County people and lived in Jamesville until about 20 years ago. They visited the old home town while here. Mr. T. G. Wallace and son, 0. W. Wallace, of Pinetown, were business visitors in our town Monday. Mr. Ben Worsley, of Oak City, at tended a meeting of the Martin County Board of Education here yes terday. Mr. J. L. Croom, of Gold Point, was a business visitor here yesterday. Mrs. G. G. Ward, of Pactolus, is visiting her son, Mr. John A. Ward, and Mrs. Ward in New Town. Charles Biggs, who is connected with the State Highway Commission in Raleigh, visited relatives here for the week end. Mr. John Hines, of Oak City, was here yesterday. Mr. H. M. Poe, secretary and man ager of the Roanoke Fair Association spent the week end in Rocky Mount with his family. Mr. W. C. Manning, Jr., spent the week end in Four Oaks. Messrs. Henry and Robert Early, of Oak City, were t here yesterday at tending to busineea. Mesdames J. O. Manning and Charles Mobley spent Friday in Greenville. Miss Ethel Griflln left last Thurs day for Charlotte, where she will spend this winter teaching in the Charlotte public schools. Miss Bettie Ward, who has been visiting relatives in this section for f.ome time, left today for Norfolk. She will visit friends in Norfolk and Washington, D. C., before returning to her home at Baltimore. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Coburn, of Nor folk, who hare been visiting Mr. Co burn's brother, R. L. Coburn, at Mrs. J. C. Crawfords, will leave tomor row for their home. Miss Hilda Bloom left yesterday for her home in New York, after spending several days with her sis ter, Mrs. Frank Margolis. Mfs. Carrie Biggs Williams and daughter, Miss Frances, returned to day from Virginia Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Margolis, Miss Hilda Bloom, and Irving Margolis spent Sunday at Morehead Villa., Mr. Jack Harris, of route 5, was a visitor here yesterday. Mr. Jernigan, who has recently opened a barber shop in Ghent, a residential section of Nor folk, says that his business is doing well and he likes the city very much. Miss Ruth Manning left yesterday for Wilson, where she will enter At lantic Christian College for the com ing year. She was accompanied there by Mr. and Mrs. James C; Man ning. Miss Evelyn Harrison left this morning for Louiilburg, where she will resume her studies at Louisburg College for this y«r. Mr. W. H. Gurkin spent Sunday at Morehead City. Mrs. Z. H. Rose has returned from Raleigh, where Bhe spent the week end. Miss Esther Harrison left this morning for Wilson, where she will take a secretarial course in Atlantic Christian College this year. The roll was called and the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. There were 16 members and 1 visitor present; also Mrs. Lee Brewer, a former member who has recently moved to Windsor. Mrs. Anna Harrison read a chap ter from the Bible, which was follow ed with a prayer by Mr. Dickey. The president appointed new committees for the coming month. After the business of the class, Mrs. Pender, assisted by Mrs. L. C. Ben nett, served fruit salad, sandwiches, and saltinea. Miss Carrie Dell White asked the class to meet with her the first Fri day night in October. 11. M. Peel Gives Barbecue and Brunswick Stew Dinner Hamilton, Sept. 6.—(Special to the Knterprise.)—Mr. H. M. Peel gave to his many friends a barbecue and biunswiek stew dinner on Friday, September 8, on his riverside farm, which made quite an enjoyable out ing. Mr. Peel gives a dinner like thia each year and always has a large at tendance. He knows how to feed and entertain you. He is not only an ex pert on entertaining, but ia one of the best farmers and efficient officers to be found. Mr. Peel is a son of the late Abner Peel, who was known in this and ad joining counties for his hospitality.
