There was a large representation of the members present. During the hour much business of interest was dis posed of through special reports and committees. Of special concern locally should be the motion made by Mrs. li. A. Gray that action be taken to rid the town of the type of weed that causes or i-riates hay fever. It was suggested that every citizen lie responsible for; cleaning up,his back lot and that the, board of commissioners be a,-.ked to I ave the streets cleaned. The president, Mrs. V. A. Ward, read a letter fron* the district pres ident, Mrs. J. M. Hobgood, of Farm x ill.-, insisting that the ltobersonville \\ oman's Club send as large a repre t ntation*"as possible to the district meeting to be held in Belhaven on October 14. Mrs. Ward expressed a desire that as many as could attend. Suggestions were made as to a per -1 manent meeting place for the club. The house committee will look into the 1 matter and report its decision as early a' possible. / Williamson, N. C OPENS MONDAY NIGHT Mrs. Walter Sumner was heartily welcome as a new member to the club. After the regular business session Miss Trentham, the county home dem onstration agent, gave a demonstra tion in lamp-shade making. She showed much ease and naturalness and insisted that 'she was only too willing to be of real service to the com mtinity whenever she might. were seven local visitors and two from Williamston, Miss Trent bam and Mrs. Thigpen. W. H. HOLDKRNESS TAKES OATH AS ATTORNEY HERE Mr. George A. Holderness, president of the Carolina Telephone & Tele graph Co., and treasurer of the Vir ginia-Carolina Chemical Co , with of fices at Richmond, was in town Mon day. He was accompanied by his daughter, Harriett, and two sons, George A.j jr., who is now a naval officer stationed at Boston, and Wm. 1!., who took the oath of attorney at law to practice in the North Caro lina courts. He holds an A. B. de gree from the University of North Carolina, and is also a graduate of the Harvard law school. He was li •c nsed by the supreme court at its last examination of applicants. He will return to Harvard, where he will take a post-graduate course. He has not-yet decided where he will locate. Drunken Drivers Fare Jiard in Pitt Court The Pitt County recorders court is building itself up to a point of high respectability and deserved honor. Drunken automobile drivers fare worse there than most offenders, which is just and proper. There are few things that are a greater men ace than a drunken person and an au tomobile. ®' Heavy fines, some jail sentences and some canceled licenses are being handed out in this court.
